Global 1940 Wittman and Private Panic vs Credulous and Elrood
-
Also do you guys fancy a play by email game of Civilisation IV? Thought today that if you love Axis and Allies you’d probably go weak at the knees for Civilisation….
I’ll play if everyone wants to so as not to break up our little cadre. I do have quite a few A&A games on though.
-
No not surrendering yet - I think you guys need to place your flags on the Riechstag first. Just planning ahead for the inevitable. Are you familiar with Civilisation then Adam? If not I’d look it up - suspect would be massively up your street. Why play for 6 years of human existence when you can play 6000?!!!
-
civilization is da bomb!!

What exactly are you talking about? I have Civ IV on my PC, but its a normal PC Game… which I sometimes enjoyed singleplay…
Or is there another online / web version I dont know about?
What I enjoy regularly though is a board game that made it to the webs called: “Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization” - it was strongly influenced by the Sid Meiers Civ game. But is different. Sometimes referred to as “Civilization Light”
If you look at the Strategy-Game ranking on Boardgamegeek you find it on top 2:
https://boardgamegeek.com/strategygames/browse/boardgame?sort=rank&rankobjecttype=family&rankobjectid=5497&rank=2#2Rank 6 is its predecessor, which is 90% the same (similar relationship like A&A 1940 1st to 2nd Edition).
This is the online version: http://www.boardgaming-online.com/
-
My Civ experience is limited to an early internet play enabled version called Civnet, which I played solo for some years.
Happy to try whatever version you knowledgeable guys decide. But no Civ s/w here.
Back to business! Where is Italy’s go? Another step on the road to defeat!

Hi Elrood - yes aware of that game and its been on my purchase target list for a while. Good to see the sequel is now up to number 2. Which is the better game in your estimation as I think both versions are available at the moment?
I am just talking about the regular version of Civ 4 and I thought Civ 4 had online multiplayer including play by email capability - but maybe I got that wrong. If it doesn’t have play by email then it damn well should do based on the nature of the game!
On Italy’s go I’m down in London tonight so will be tomorrow at earliest I’m afraid.

Yes I prefer the 2nd Edition! I own 1st edition as boardgame and have played about 3 games with my friends… but i played about 160 games of it on that online platform from above.
2nd edition came out recently and I have finish about 20 games of it … also online. I see no point in getting the card board version… i simply cannot find the time and people to play such time consuming game (similar to A&A… which I only play via tripleA for years now… a bit of a shame… since I own both 1st and 2nd editon… latter one I never played once… :| )
At TtA… 1st edition is perfect… and 2nd edition just straightened out few things… and made it another kind of perfect… I say. Its really amazing how these games were developed and how good they are. swoon

and, of course, Balance Mod, which perfects on perfection. 8-)

I was talking about TtA (Through the Ages) 1st and 2nd Edition, though.
A&A is a great game, but far from perfect imho. It greatly serves the manly need to shove around other units on a battlefield, which we started to do when we realized we could smash heads with clubs.
But sure, balanced mod is great. No doubt. Lot of good thought went into it. Some people say it favors Allies too much. Whats your take on that regular kid?
-
to date, there have been 60 League Games using Balanced Mod (see 2016 League Standings). 31 games have gone to the Axis. 29 games have gone to the Allies. That being said, there is a perception that Allies get a slight advantage with the mod (especially when higher tiered players control both sides). For this reason, version 2.0 was recently released. http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=37883.0
The most significant change is that it is harder to prevent Vichy France from happening (for what thats worth), and Germany can get +2 per round for controlling the Balkans and Crete. Very minor tweaks, but helps to address perceived Allied advantage.
If there must be an ‘imbalance’ favoring one side or another, my preference would be that it favors Allies, not Axis. Changing history is hard. That being said, I think the Mod is pretty close to being perfectly balanced at this point.

Just to let you all know that I am away for the w/e - visiting some of Julie’s family. Hope you each have equally exciting fun activities planned?!
Will look to do France when I get back.
-
Or you could surrender again. They like doing that. Germany is probably making those Frogs quake, as we speak.
-
Talking of national stereotypes, when are Italy going to change sides? :-P
-
When you land in Italy. Do you not know your history?
-
What about the Triple Alliance in WW1? A change of sides without firing a shot! :-P
-
Itlay could never side with Austria; we wanted out stolen lands back!
-
That reads so weird… Is like you talk Chinese…
I myself consider myself a human accidentally born in Germany.
What is Wittmann? An Italian accidentally born as human? -
Now you are talking Japanese!
I don’t understand what you mean. -

What is Wittmann? An Italian accidentally born as human? :lol:Seb - Confused of Derbyshire here! What about witt made you think he might be human?
-
Human in contrast to humanistic
Wittmann is human as in having 2 arms and 2 legs and thats about it :-P
