I considered but decided better to ensure Gibraltar looked like an untempting target (based on the pain of trying to capture it in the last game - Adam is still going through counselling). That included factoring the additional French unit.
And there will of course be carriers. Lots of them.

I really cannot see the merits to a J1 DOW. Looks like arse, to me.

Perhaps. The next couple of turns will tell us for sure. Here are some current thoughts for debate though:
Pros
- minimise UK Pacific income sooner
- take out UK BB
- take out US DD, sub and (if Philippines - where I had 81% odds with just the one TT - successful) Fig
- J loses 10 ipc income, but gains conquest income sooner - or at least that is the plan!
Cons
- US enters war against G & It, so they need to be happy
- US gains significant NO income earlier
- Not doing the alternative of perhaps using J1, 2 & poss 3 to go at R and accept the Mongolian defense pact implications.
What else?
If I had taken Philippines would you feel the same way?
I am currently leaning towards trying a J1, 2 & poss 3 go at R next time instead. It always feels daft not to target R because of a measly 6 Mongolian inf.

I want to be in position and be in control of the Allies’ NOs; I think I can do that by delaying. I have always liked making those pesky Americans, with their largesse of income, waiting. -
