Dice or Low Luck??

I say my my tanks hit on 2-4 instead of 3 or less. You dont hear me or somehow miss understand or one of us forget b4 the battle is over. This could lead to a heated argument when i hit with 4s. So like i said…it works in theory. How it works out in real life is more complicated. Better to kiss. Keep it simple.

Seems overly complicated to me. Also, you can end up getting worse luck than dice (at least in smaller battles); for your 2 inf, 1 bomber example:

Dice: 5/6 * 5/6 * 1/3 chance of 0 hits –- 23.15%

Fudge dice: (1/3 * 1/3) + 2 * (1/3 * 1/3)=1/3 chance of 0 hits — 33.3%

Maybe it gets balanced out by the fact that the opponent also has bad odds, but not to my fancy.

Two defending infantry not having better odds than one other than the extra hitpoint seems…off to me as well.

Divide by 6.

I find the opposite… most people like to gamble. Because they can score more hits :D

Just ask yourself… If 3 of your infantry get waxed by an overwhelming force in one turn.  Do you take the 1 statistical hit, or chance for 3 hits on your opponent!?

If you just want to change from D6 do D12, then just double all attack and defenses values, unless you want to edit costs and powers to satisfy historical details, such as better german tanks, etc. But then you have to mess around with initial deployment too (if russians are gonna have weaker infantry, then they need to start with more of them, right?).

I have a 30 sided die i got as a gift. So i’ll just multiply everything by 5 :D

Yeah, I’m not crazy about low luck myself. Sure, it can be a time saver with a lot less dice rolling. In some battles with certain numbers and types of units involved, you wouldn’t have to roll at all, just remove automatic hits. Eg: You attack 3 infantry with 6 tanks. The 6 tanks automatically get 3 hits which wipes the infantry out and the 3 infantry automatically get 1 hit so you remove 1 tank. You don’t even need a battle strip for that.
I still like the chance and surprise you can get from rolling dice for each unit. I will never forget the one game in which I was Germany and had 5 infantry involved in a certain attack. These were regular infantry, not artillery-supported, so they attacked @ 1. I rolled my 5 dice and what do you know? FIVE German crosses pretty as you please. Doubt that will ever happen again, but it was sure cool at the time.

I also prefer the roll of the dice.  I suppose I ought to be careful as I have never played out a game in LL.  I really enjoy the different directions that game often takes based on dice rolls.  Every game can be a different game whereas in LL I can see the game tending to play out along predictable ways.  That being said, re-rolls of early outrageous dice should be considered and I have allowed it and suggested it in my games when I was the beneficiary of the opponents bad dice.  If I win, it’s not going to be because my opponent got diced early.

I think it adds to the game when you have to consider and plan for unlikely outcomes.  It forces you to use more forces than you would like to and to hold some forces back for contingency plans.  Everyone is a competent general and planner when the dice are going their way.  The mark of a truly good tactician is the ability to build in flexibility to account for unlikely dice outcomes.  If dice are always determining the outcomes of your game then maybe you ought to play a bit differently.

Its very important that the prices are also different for each nation when you use D12.

Better use LL, players who have never tried this would be surprised by how much luck there is in A&A.
LL games are sometimes won by luck, not by skills……!
