@Arthur-Bomber-Harris The best way to put a wrench in part of the J1 sceam. Meaning not just the first round my the J1 Strategy it’s self that is a strategy for the whole game, if done probably, is to middle east it with U.K. you basically make India a big no for the Japanese player.
Lets talk about chips

@CWO:
All bunkers should have canine companion
Yes, even the Fuhrerbunker had one in April 1945, the famous Blondi.
HAHA… That’s awesome.
Early in the movie Downfall, there’s a scene in which Hitler introduces Blondi to his new secretary, Traudl Junge, and (as I recall) says about Blondi “She’s smarter than most people.” I’m sure he genuinely believed this, given his inclinations (which are nicely depicted in the movie) to rant to his generals that he’s surrounded by imbeciles and incompetents.

@Young:
What’s a good amount of chips (the plastic kind) to have so that you don’t run out during a Global game? Keep in mind that the setup requires 103 gray, and 13 red.
Usually one of my little Plano containers that holds 5 50-count stacks of chips is plenty. I have 3 stacks of white (50 each, 150 total), 1 stack of red (50) and 1 stack of blue (50). In an average game, we will go through about 2 1/2 stacks of the white, roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the red and barely touch the blues, like maybe 5 or 6 (remember, blues are 10 units).
I’ll have to count what I have as well, we never run out.
-
I’ve got 250 Grays, 50 Reds, and 20 Blues… my group never uses the Blues, and I’m thinking we might as well get in line with everyone else and start using the Greens… so I’m thinking 200 Whites, 50 Greens, and 50 Reds from HBG should be a good set for every game.
Thoughts?
-
I assume your using the Whites for (1) instead of the OOB Greys? That looks good to me.
I have 200 Grey, 30 Green, 50 Red, 30 Blue. We haven’t played a game with them yet but we are planning on Easter weekend. I will definitely take some pics and possibly get a video too.

You are using the Greens as 3 units, right? In that case, you probably won’t need so many white chips. One reason we go through so many white chips is we don’t use a “3” unit chip. We do have green chips, but they are 50 units so they rarely get used.
-
I just had another idea (a bit nutsy perhaps). I have 10 different color chips. What if I used each to represent a different number in increments of 1?
1 = white
2 = red
3 = blue
4 = yellow
5 = green
6 = black
7 = orange
8 = brown
9 = purple
10 = pinkThat might make for a really colorful board yet still not have much on there.
Okay, I’m just being silly here. -
If I had all those chips, I would give the Axis their own colors, as well as the Allies.
Axis Powers
1= Yellow
5= Black
10= PurpleAllied Powers
1= White
5= Red
10= Blue -
We use different colored chips for each unit type. I really helps to clean up stack on the board and to tell how many of each unit are in a territory.
white = infantry
black = tanks
green = art
orange = mech
brown = bomber
blue = fighter
yellow = tac.
purple = navy (we ran out of colors so had to make due). We keep talking about painting the purple different colors for different ships but never get around it.We still use reds to represent 5 units any type of unit.
That’s cool Bar, I’d love to see a picture of your game board with the chips sometime :)
Here are a few pics from recent game. This post has the start of each side of the board.

And here is a panoramic from around turn 3 or so.

not to hijack the thread, but i thought i’d let everyone know that WotC is shipping me a replacement board! I just sent them the same picture i shared with all of you and gave my discrepancy. Nice to know that there are still honest good business out there! Now if i could only find a way to get more 1942 2nd Ed chips!!!

I prefer these smaller chips too. The 1914 WWI game uses different shades of blue and reds of this same smaller size. I ordered a couple sets from HBG and we use:
grey 1
blue 2
green 3
red 5http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Supplement-Bag-Chips-1914-WW1_p_1444.html

I have wanted these, but HBG has been out of stock for some time now.

I find it odd that WotC doesn’t sell accessories. IE: More IT or ANZ units, factory units, chips, or dice. im sure it’s not as large a demand for them to bother, but…well i basically answered my own question, but i still can hope and wish right!!!???

What other editions of A&A have the new style chips used in '42 2nd edition? Do Europe and Pacific '40 2nd editions use those same type of chips?
I actually really like those chips and would like to find more because I find them easier to work with and count when on the board. Looks like HBG is OOS right now. Strangely they show '40 2nd edition as using the older style chips.
Note: if I should have started a new thread to ask this, kindly let me know. I thought it better to add to the Chip discussion thread than clog up the forums with multiple thread on the same general topic.

I’m pretty sure 1st Edition 1940 chips are different in size and shape than 2nd Edition chips (mostly because of the added green), but I’m not 100% sure.

The new-style chips are found in…
Europe 1940 2nd ed.
Pacific 1940 2nd ed.
1942 2nd ed.
WWI 1914The 1st ed. of the 1940 games used the old style of chips.
This can be seen on the HBG website by clicking on the individual games and looking at the “More items” pages.
[Edit]:
I tried posting some screen shots, but the transaction didn’t go through.

The icon below with the red X through it doesn’t display, but the blue paperclip below it is clickable and the image will actually open if you access it that way.

Thank you! I couldn’t tell that from the picture on the HBG website.

The ridges and the central logo stamp are hard to see in some of the shots, but the tip-off is that the Europe/Pacific 2nd ed and 1942 2nd ed chip sets contain green chips, and that the WWI 1914 chips sets contain two shades of red and two shades of blue. The old-style chips never used green as far as I can recall, and never used two different shades of the same colour in the same game.
Edit: I’ve just had a look at the Europe/Pacific 2nd ed chip picture on the HBG site using its magnification function and it does look as if the chips – including the green ones – have blank centres rather than logo-stamped centres…so I’m not sure what to make of this. As far as I recall (I’m not at home right now so I can’t check) all of my green chips are logo-stamped…so either my memory is faulting me, or the sealed bags shown on the HBG site are HBG chips rather than OOB ones. Does anyone on the forum have authoritative information on what chip styles are used in Europe/Pacific 2nd ed?
-
All the 1940 chips are the same.
They unfortunately are different from the Revised, Pac 2001, and first Europe edition games, which have I tons of and are just slightly smaller in diameter than the 1940 chips, thus better. (Not sure about anniversary).
I NEVER use the green chips – too confusing to eyeball stacks, and I keep thinking they represent 4 units not 5 etc.
Plus I prefer large grey stacks and only use reds when they really get out of hand.

So 2nd edition 1940 uses the old style chips then, same as 1st?

These smaller chips are the ones sold by HBG?
Sorry if I’m being dense here.
