mmm … We did try the “Battleship must be hit twice but in a row” house rule and … For the moment it works well!
Now the fleet owner feel obliged to protect those big BB & AC with little units like in the “old AA days” and during WWII

Yeah, I play the original version of A&A 3rd edition.  My buddy and I always give the Axis Super Subs and Jet Fighters to try and even up the odds.  We haven’t gone as far as using the editor to give more advantage to the Axis…yet.

Still though…the Axis is definitely more fun to play in the 1st few turns. :)

I tend to agree. In Revised the main reason to stack Bury was to take pressure off Borneo and Pearl, while simultaneously threatening Manchuria or the distracting the rest of the mainland. Here Pearl is a non-issue, there are less units to stack into Bury, the transit to East Indies takes longer even if USA goes south, and its easier for Japan to push the center or India out of sz 61. That said, if you were going to leave units behind in Bury, the only reason to do so is to hold the battleship and transport north in the first round, which you can probably accomplish just leaving 1 inf behind. Putting 5 into it, just seems like throwing the ipcs away. Stacking Yakut, or pushing down to hold the center, is likely more advantageous than stacking Buryatia on this board.

Yes. It has to be in the combat move phase. Technically a battle takes place but no dice are rolled, as the Transport has no defense value.

And the transport never ends up on a territory.  Just in the seazone adjacent to the territory you’re dumping units into.

why would you need a third CV when you start with two already?

I don’t think you’d need a 3rd CV on J1. By the time its J1, you may be down to 1 CV. If the UK attacks your SZ 37 fleet and wins soundly, then Japan starts off on the defensive. You may want a 2nd CV.

If you don’t buy any navy/air force on J1, then the US can take the initiative in the Pacific. You will be hard pressed to do everything the IJN needs to do: protect Philippines, Borneo, East Indies, Japan, Kwangtung and Manchuria; chase off or destroy the USN; crush India; and pick up Australia, New Zealand and/or Africa.
