    hang on i think you made a common mistake with american in z26 let me check.  you can’t attack the sub unless you keep everything else there - you can’t move out of z26 in combat move unless you are attacking something.

    yes, what you did cannot be done.  you can’t move the subs and destroyers from 26 to 46 if you are also attacking the sub in 26.  the reason is, z26 is not a hostile sea zone and therefore you cannot move ships out of it in the combat move unless they are attacking.  this is true of the cruiser and battleship which are bombarding.  it is not true of the subs and destroyer though.
