Hi everyone,

I’m interested in getting into Global War by Historical Board Gaming, especially Global War 1936 and Global War 1914, but I’m not completely sure what the best way to start is.
There seem to be many options (starter kits, expansions, maps, pieces, shipping choices), and as someone new to Global War, I’d really appreciate some guidance:
What is the minimum recommended setup to play and enjoy the game?
Is it better to start small and expand later, or buy a more complete package from the beginning?
Are there any must-have components or common beginner mistakes to avoid?
Would you recommend starting with 1936 or 1914, and why?
I’m especially interested in advice from players who started recently and learned what works best.

@superbattleshipyamato Right. alot more complications introduces longer play. More areas means longer play, More units longer play. I wish their was a light 12 page version with only about 6-10 more units, not 60 more. The map would have about 60% less areas and play would take 2-3 hours but still be buckets of dice concept. That would be my wish plus dedicated piece sets or a version that used counters like nova games edition.

@superbattleshipyamato Honestly, you’d be better off looking the different Global Wars up on YouTube. Lots of great channels out there, and tons of comprehensive videos.

I was wondering exactly how and what you bought for the Vichy France control markers and units.

So I tried to address a similar problem with the Monroe Doctrine. My group and I still have not gotten Monroe reaction by US down to 100% because the rule designer clearly didn’t think or test this shit out enough. (not shocked based on responses).

Non allies attack Americas: I’ve been told that the US doesn’t actually DoW by definitions of the words but take military action while at peace, think of it as a proxy war but both sides are directly involve like the Suez Crisis in real life. US may go down and engage and remove any hostile nations in the Americas and then they end up annexing the territories they took since they are active by rules and thus US was able to gain income while still being at peace.

France or Commonwealth (or any other official Allies): I put in the house rule that they cannot attack the Americas because the game doesn’t allow nations inside Alliances to fight each other so unless Monroe is the only situation where US will fight French and Commonwealth troops, I tell my group they simply do not wish to piss off the US and thus cannot attack the Americas.

Have you created TripleA maps in the past? Or are you going to start from scratch?
