Hey there, hope you are fine, three things:
1. I just saw the map now and I will go to bed now, being on a business trip all day tomorrow and facing on Friday to a 5h trip each way to be the best man of my best friend’s marriage. Long story short, I am afraid the next move will take till Monday. I apologize again for the delay but in case I want at least keep a tiny chance to keep the game competitive I cant spill out the most important US/Chine/UK move this next turn. There might be a slot tomorrow evening, the problem is I dont know yet when I am back home.
2. regarding combat moves. Sure, no problem, I just never did it so far and I didn’t see many others doing it nor did anyone asked me to do it yet. However I agree that this procedure would be more clean. I will do that from now.
3. I am afraid you made an illegal action during your last Japan turn. You cannot attack the sub in sz42 and move the carrier and sub out of the sea zone. A sub does not make a seazone hostile so leaving the sz during combat move phase must result in a battle. This is the case for the 2 battleships and the cruiser which each gave a shot of shore bombardment. However the sub and the carriers did not participate in any battles so they cannot leave the sz during combat.
Creating that constrain was the intention of moving my sub into that sea zone, otherwise the sub would just have been a sacrifice for nothing. Please let me know how you want to handle that, I am sure we find a solution.
Best,
Tobias -
Seems legal to me. They move out to avoid the the combat.
-
I can only explain in this way. This seazone is gonna be hostile this turn so the rest of the fleets can move out to avoid combat. Does that make sense?
If the rule is not so, I will be really surprised.
Cheers
-
And of course it’s definitely not ’ sacrifice for nothing’ . It’s more like swap 1 sub for 1 destroyer.
-
You are probably right here. Gamerman01 says it’s illegal to do both actions. Then I may need to edit a little noncombat move and give your sub back and roll blockade dice.
Can’t believe this rule though. A lone sub can survive here. What an unreasonable rule! Must be something wrong here. But it’s beyond me. Don’t want to waste time arguing on this. Another unreasonable rule in this game would be that you have to offload all units that you upload in the same turn if you want to offload any, which means you can’t offload one and have another one remain on the transport. This rule doesn’t make any sense and handicaps allies hugely.
-
Are you happy about this solution?
-
By saying that give your sub back, I mean there will be no combat in sz 42.

A sub does not make a seazone hostile. Europe 2nd Edition page 8
Friendly sea zones contain no surface warships (this doesn’t include
submarines and transports) belonging to a power with which you are at war. Hostile sea zones contain surface warships
belonging to a power with which you are at war.Page 13:
Sea units moving into a sea zone containing only enemy
submarines and/or transports in order to attack those
units. (Remember that such a sea zone is not considered
hostile.)page 14:
If you are sharing a sea zone with surface warships (not
submarines and/or transports) belonging to a power with
which you are at war, this situation requires you to do one
of the following:
• Remain in the sea zone and conduct combat,
• Leave the sea zone, load units if desired, and conduct
combat elsewhere,
• Leave the sea zone, load units, and return to the same
sea zone to conduct combat (you can’t load units while
in a hostile sea zone), or
• Leave the sea zone and conduct no combat.I know this situation quite well because it occured in previous games of mine and I asked gamerman about it and he confirmed that subs do not make a seazone hostile.

And of course it’s definitely not ’ sacrifice for nothing’ . It’s more like swap 1 sub for 1 destroyer.
My apologies, I did NOT see your posts on page 7, you said it already, please ignore my last post.
And you are of course right, the sub wasnt for nothing, I just wanted to say that I woulnd’t have preferred that trade off and that the intention was to create the contraint.
Giving the sub back, rolling convoy dice and edit your NCM is of course fine, thanks and sorry to bother. But this situation occurs in almost any game I play (I tend to create such situations) so you might benefit from it as well.
I also agree that this rule is a bid odd, if gives subs even more power than they have already, usually US benfits from it because this could create unwanted convoy damage, Japan usually does not roll convoy to US.
Ill study the map asap, maybe I can move today.
SO back to the game and I hope I can annoy you in further rounds, Axis are very powerful, more than Id like them to be:/

Just a side note: You can avoid that by loading units in the NCM phase, which of course limits you otherwise.
But I agree, there are a couple or rules that are not intuitive to me, have to take them as they are or to convince Larry to chance them! -

Thanks! I learned more about the rules after this. Allies are in very good position to fight right now. I can see a tough game is just about to begin.
