Funny that you thought you had the game in the bag, cause I felt the same for quite a while :-)
Admittedly, in round 9 I was a little worried, that you would get Iraq too. But I felt confident and took Norway with USA, instead of reinforcing the Middle East. Retrospectively, it was a bad idea, since you just reconquered Norway with -13 TUV (which is a fine price to pay) and it stopped the US quite a lot.
My whole strategy is based upon Egypt and the Middle East, so losing Moscow is nothing new to me. It happens in more than 80% of my games :-)
