Here’s hoping for better days ahead.  I’m very sorry to hear of this tragedy and the suffering you all are going through

I have been continuing this primarily to play devil’s advocate in trying to bring out more of the discussion.

Personally, I cannot distinguish between who was worse. Who killed more, and how they did so, does not equate to a greater evil necessarily. I find Hitler much more personally repugnant, but I find Stalin much more personally dangerous. I put forth the Stalin argument because you seemed to believe a case could not be made for him being worse.

And as for a knee-jerk reaction to communism… not so. Again, more emphasis placed on it just to do so. Communism… National Socialism… I hate them both for what they mean to humanity.

To be honest, I do not care to post anymore here. The point was that you realize that Stalin can legitimately be called worse than Hitler. Whether or not you can accept that is something else. But maybe you have just been ignoring that for the sake of our ancillary argument.

Either way, good discussion.

That limit on entering events is probably a good idea, but I bet it would have very little effect overall. I doubt there are more than a handful of people, and probably only from larger countries, that it could apply to.  But it also might mean limiting a country’s ability to win medals.  So I dunno.

Of course it would only have a small effect, but it would give a chance to a few more people who have spent their entire young lives training for a moment that only comes every 4 years.

Is there anything currently showing new episodes on prime time?  I thought that wouldn’t be happening for a month or so.

You could be right. I don’t watch the local networks’ prime time lineups. But I assumed that things were different this year because of the writers strike and also because I watch Monk and Psych on USA Network and they have been airing new episodes for over a month now.

I admit, he does let his mouth move faster then his brain. This is why he needs speech writers. I’m thoroughly convinced he has the best foreign policy (aka we don’t need you if you’re just a fair weather friend, which is how I see his policy speaking to the world) but his local policies just plain suck. They suck almost completely.

Really, he should just pass a bill saying Presidents and Congressmen cannot ever screw around iwth the states. If Maryland wants gays to marry, let them. If Idaho doesn’t want to honor that marriage, let them. If Georgia wants ot make it legal for men to shag sheep, fine! But get the damn President out of my living room already! And for that matter, get Teddy Kennedy out too!!!

Jan__, I believe Saddam’s last two approval ratings(taken at election time, therefore, equaling his vote percentages were 99.6%(1995, I think) and 99.9%(2000, I think.) Interestingly enough, immediately after both elections, 0.4%(1995) and 0.1%(2000) of the voters shot themselves in the back of their heads. There has been some idle speculation due to the fact that when these #s are added together they equal 100.0% for both elections. No complete cross-referencing has been done to verify that all these distraught voters did not support Saddam. There has been some support for the idea that these unfortunate voters were upset that Saddam did not get unanamous approval.
