Revised Tech & NAs

Hate to compromise my deity status, but JWW is giving me quite the schooling in the league this year…he beat me in 5 rounds our first game, and 4 rounds into the second things are looking hopeless.  I managed to beat him a couple times last year, but I had to work for it–he’s hardly breaking a sweat!  Now if we could just get him to write some strategy articles.  :-)

I am an Axis and Allies player from years ago and was recently gifted the revised version. This has reawakened my interest in the game and it’s nice to see some others who still enjoy it. I read about the triplea client and have also been using that to brush up on my skills.

I was thinking about joining some online games but a lot don’t seem that friendly to people who don’t know acronyms or have different expansion sets. Are there only really experienced players online? Also, does anyone know how to host a game? I tried to but it said there was something up with my router or firewall. I have no idea what that means :)

It’s great to see that there is still a lot of love for the game out there.

I like GameTableOnline.  The design aesthetics and ease of game play are superior to TripleA.  Plus there’s a nice variety of novices and experts.

But in TripleA’s favor, it offers save/edit and bidding, which are great features for a highly competitive game.

Btw you can’t host on TripleA if you haven’t enabled port forwarding for TripleA.  GameTableOnline doesn’t have this issue–anyone can host.

I think we are in agreement, I’ll only buy the 2nd one when I do anticipate 14 units being placed.  I ment the 10-11 unit thing in addition to the IC so I need to be earning about 45 so I can buy 1 IC+10 inf and then place 10 inf (say 3 fic, 7 jap) and then place my IC on either Sin/Ind.  Since I’m already at 44-45, I know next turn I’ll have no trouble spending 45 on 13-14 units.

My typical turns/income will be

Rd 1 - 30 (3 trns, 1 arm, save 1)  - collect 33 (chi + bury) + 1 save
Rd 2 - 34 (1 trn, 6 inf, 1 arm save 3) - collect 37 (chi, sin, bury, sfe, yak) + 3 save (you may be able to take ind but I didn’t count it)
Rd 3 - 40 (1 IC, 8 ground units) - collect 43 (above + ind, aus, hi)
Rd 4 - Here I’d probably pass on a 2nd (purchased) IC until Rd 5 but if I was able to take Novo (or Kaz) in J3 or took Ind in J2 I’d probably be over 45.  So in that case I’d buy the 2nd IC and still place 10 units.  I also have no problem waiting another rd.  Spend my 43 on 8 inf 3 arm save 4 and then in Rd 5 buy the IC and perhaps place on Sin or Ind in this case.

Also the turn that I am short 1 unit is the turn I’ll move the AA to the mainland to cover my IC.

Parings are going to be rolled shortly, but there will be 3 open slots for late registrants…

Enhanced doesn’t alter the ability to move out of a contested sea zone as part of a combat movement.  Bean is correct.

Look at the Sequence of play as well.

Buy units
Combat movement
Resolve combat  <==  detection occurs here, AFTER combat movement.
non combat movement
etc

Goggle for TripleA, it has a very weak AI, but better then Hasbros…  (doesn´t say much of course…)

TripleA’s AI is almost static for the first 3 rounds.  Go with insane German purchases for the first two rounds and you’ll own Moscow because it doesn’t know to stack Moscow with infantry.

We did… And Japan played VERY well, but my Germany was NOT up to par…

There are 2 threads in the Games section (the first game you can disregard, it was my first ever game of Revised, and I lost Berlin in Turn 2).  Then second shows better how I use my Japan forces…
