From the moment an air base is built fighters based there can scramble in defence of an adjacent sea zone.

Because it is a multinational force in defence then allied fighters can be scrambled if desired.

This can also be useful if you use a light force to clear a territory, then you can send tanks through to a friendly territory on the other side.

For example, say japan has a big stack of armor and a couple infs in india and a lot of infs in sinkiang.  Let’s also assume the allies have picket defense in kaz and persia.  Either stack would get smacked on it’s own, but together they should hold a territory.  Use a few infs from sinkiang to capture Kaz, and a light force to take persia, then, once you know both battles were victorious, you can shoot the armor stack from india up to Kaz with the inf stack from sinkiang for a formidable hold on the territory.  (I’ve used this to swing US tanks from TRJ through Persia to Caucasus, or to get UK armor from Norway through Karelia to Arc or WRu to help defend russia as well)

But to not fight, the German units (usign the example above) have to leave in their COMBAT movement phase.  That is a key point…

Well in my strats I always assume the worst and hope for the best (meaning USSR is a bear and I have to salvage as much as I can of the German military to make sure the game isn’t completely lost).

Again, this strategy will work most of the time. Though one key factor is if the German Baltic Fleet survives T1. You’ll lose a transport for sure to the 2 USSR ftrs, but hopefully your sub can submerge in time. With this extra sub you can attack the British and USSR combined fleet at the English Channel. I would suggest sending: 1 bmb (Germany), 2 ftrs (Norway, E Europe), 1 sub vs. 2 trns, 1 sub, 1 BB of the Allies. Hopefully you won’t lose more than 1 ftr overall though there is the chance of losing 2, lowering your Luftwaffe to only 2 ftrs. :(

But I perfer the “Asterisk Gambit”

Here’s how you do it:
Materials: A&A rulebook, scissors, glue, strip of asterisks.

1. A day before the game, photocopy the following sentence (asterisk included) and paste it on the last page of te rulebook:

= This rule is no longer valid. Any player attempting to use an invalid rule like this automatically forfeits the game.

2. Before the game begins, put the prepared rulebook in the bathroom, along with the glue, the scissors, and a strip of asterisks. If you’re short on asterisks, you may use these **********

3. Midway through the game, excuse yourself to go to the bathroom

4. In the bathroom, clip out and glue asterisks to all sections of the rulebook your opponent has been effectively exploiting

5. Return to your opponent, hand him the rulebook, then show him the door :wink:
