Sorry, Jen, but I simply cannot see any rudeness in posting in other peoples game thread.
Both players still have the option not to answer, so it doesn’t affect the gameplay at all, as Infrastructure as stated. At least, I cannot immagine how it influences any turns.
in all truth infra, i would rather say it gently right to your face that i felt you were being inconsistent - bmnielson clearly intended to DOW with France, exactly as you had. you had some extremely strong words against one of the most honorable players to ever play the game (arathorn) and i think it would have behooved you, after that whole upset, to do what you had so strongly advocated that arathorn should have done. but that’s just my two cents, for your own good, truly.
i really am not trying to be mean or underhanded in any way, and i’ve enjoyed our current game quite a lot. i enjoy playing you, but i would prefer to comment directly in your game thread rather than elsewhere. if you would rather i state it elsewhere just let me know.

If you look at the games in question you will see more than a couple glaring differences in the scenarios. I will now gladly go back to france’s turn if bmnielson wants to. Im not sure he does as he might be in a better postion after my move. He is set up to make it so india will easily never fall again. I waffled on wether or not to do it for strategy’s sake.
BOLDFRESH, can you please not write posts on any of my other games?

You’re so funny. And what makes it even funnier is that you’re not even trying. The reason why it’s fun to poke or push your buttons just a little bit is because it’s so easy to get a reaction without even really doing something. This is especially due to how you’re the one on here quickest to complain about “extreme dice”. Of course, even with just a basic college class in statistics and probability one would easily detect that the “extreme” dice aren’t usually that “extreme” :) lol
Anyway, you’re a Tier 1 player, and you play well so we want you here. I hope you don’t interpret our friendly teasing as an effort to push you away from playing here. It’s all meant in good sport. And I can assure you that the troll activity on most other sites can better be compared to a zoo or circus :) So you’re in a good place, even though you might get teased a little, since you’re both good and funny!
I hope you’ll even consider playing me again once I’m back into league games.

Quick general educational comment on the interpretation of dice.
If the outcome of your dice is slightly different than the 5000 battle calc simulations’ average, that does NOT mean your dice are “extreme” ;)
What would be extreme is if you actually GET the battle calc average results several times in a row. People can’t trust the battle calc so heavily. It only gives a hint of what to expect. Because when you start the actual roll, ANY result is “acceptable”.
In a “80%” battle, you can actually be “lucky” getting a sub par result, because you COULD HAVE had even WORSE. hehe
But I guess probability is for the boring kind of geeks. Lol
Rule of thumb before you complain:
•Anything that’s not the EXACT average of 5000 battle call simulations is NOT “extreme dice”.
One not need think of extreme luck as instaneous, but also cumulative in principle. To lose 10+ IPCs of value every turn for several turns with no balancing luck against your opponent impacts a game almost as much as losing the same amount at once. That is not even taking into account the weight of timing and position. Good players know when a game has been won or lost more to luck than to skill.
The most unfortunate part of this game in my mind is that around half of the games are determined by extreme luck. Definition of extreme luck meaning the game is determined more by luck than skill.
It is such a wonderful game though! Except of course when playing with an opponent that prefers a cheap win than a good game…

We must have very different experience then. I would say it’s more likely to be around 10-20% tops (games decided more by luck, than by skill).

When I understood that you had the only true and accurate perception of dice, luck and probability, I had no choice but to use my jedi mind-trick on you, so that you would make mistakes that I could later capitalise on.

Hmm… 10-20%? In my experience good luck tends to mostly exacerbate the better player’s advantage, while bad luck evens it out.
That being said, I can think of a handful of games I’ve played that were decided by luck alone. I attacked London with Germany for the win at 98% chance of winning and lost. I once attacked Gamerman’s main Russian army got NO hits. Yikes!

Luck can have a huge effect on the game at the beginning, it’s true. A bad G1 can cripple you for ages. But once the game gets going, luck only really affects you if you choose to ride that probability curve. That’s what I like about this game. You can lay it safe, and get the effects you expect (minus a crazy result here and there), or you can go for the gusto and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (or vice versa).

Maybe I was murky in my comment. Let me reiterate what I mean. In games between closely matched players I believe that luck determines the outcome as often as skill does.
Here is some empirical data; I have played 3 games against wheatbeer. I am 2-1 but do not feel I can say I am a more skilled player. If you include the playoff game and my current game that I am most likely going to lose against bmnielson I am 1-2 but do not feel I can say he is a more skilled player. One step further is that 3 of these game were definetly decided by luck. 1other game could be argued to have been determined by luck as well. I have had 1 game against Karl this season and 1 game against mrroboto. 1 of those was determined by luck.
A player can of course counteract bad luck with superior skill against an opponent and should not be considered in the data…
