We had 577 games completed in 2013, and are currently on pace to have 490 for 2014, so not quite as many.
of participants is probably comparable
Actually if you factor in the approx 15 games played in the league playoffs so far this year, we would be on pace for 559 league games this year which is almost the same as the 577 from 2013.
As the playoffs are wrapping up, hopefully we are getting more involvement from some of those better players in the regular season again -

Germany had 120 IPC and was one step away from getting India, followed by the rest of mainland Asia. And that Canada invasion was hilarious!

Yes, I agree!
if U for example play 13 games, U can still play 5 games with one opponent so its near 40 % of all games
if u play 26, thats 7/26
or 39, 9/39 not even close the near 40 % in the case of 13/5
so yes, more games it is against one opponent but it is not too much, since u played so much games :D
