Can ships do bombarding attack if user builds new sea force?

If I remember correctly, it’s typical for Germany to take Karelia the first round since Russia is not going to have enough force to keep it. The main duty for Russia is to make sure Germany cannot use Karelia’s factory to produce new units next couple rounds, meaning Russia needs to take it back if Germany conquer it. If not Allies will be in difficult position.

Karl took 7, and put 1 inf and 1 artillery on Caucasus, then destroyed the 6 german units on Ukraine taking I believe, 1 casualty.

Up to 19, I’d put a combination of Russian Artillery and British Subs within reach of the opener targets.

The “Black Queen Gambit” (Attacking the southern Japanese fleet) is crippling to Japan. 1-2 more subs dramatically improve the odds, though, Karl again destroyed all the Axis units without any bid, taking a grand 2 casualties.

Those two battles are pivotal. Attack and win, the game is yours as the Axis. Attack and retreat, or lose 1:1, the Allies have a good chance of winning. Luck in the opener means alot here, and that’s why as little as 1-2 artillery or subs really distort and increase the chances of you doing well.

Thanks P@nther it does help. And Krieghund, I totally misread that part of the book…looking at it now it’s plain as day! I feel like that’s not how it worked (for land or sea) way back in Classic, but maybe I’ve just been playing wrong all these years. I guess I just figured if a unit wanted to live in a territory, it had to risk for it. Thanks again!

Great post Black Elk. Here are my usual US buys for the first 3 rounds.

1st 3 bombers. Save 6
2nd 3 bombers, Transport, infantry
3rd 2 bombers, Transport, 2 infantry
4th turn on can change based on bomber losses, German plane buys, and what Japan is doing.

The point with this build is to merge allied fleets off sea zone 13 on turn 3.

No - land units cannot fire at the ships. The ships only fire once and are then no longer involved in the battle.

Am I the only one that thinks you shouldn’t be able to reinforce on the same turn as you repair the IC? Seems like a “double move” from a sequencing standpoint…like moving land units then letting them load on transport -or- fighters in combat landing in newly captured territories.

We always play house rule that you have to reinforce the next turn, but also adopt SB interceptor rules, so you can dissuade SB runs.  It also curbs just packing in all your units into VC’s with mindless stacks.

In the latest Alpha+3 rules, Larry changed the SBR rules for escorts and interceptors.

This game came out 10 months after that 10/10/11 post on his site, so it has changed again. That’s one thing that makes this game frustrating - it’s not like chess where the rules have been around for hundreds of years. The rules are still fluid and keep changing.
