Bombers=game spoilers

If you’re going to use the US as your trading country, then make sure you have a good transport system in place. Get a 4x4 going on. Four transports from Ecan to UK, and UK to EEU (preferably) or Kar. And buy a fighter EVERY round so you can fly it to Russia. Do the same with the UK. Buy a fighter every round and fly it to Russia. Get a good fighter cover going, have Russia buy infantry out the wazoo (and an armour every now and then) and continually wear Germany down.

Then 5 minutes per nation, 10 minute break every 2 turns.
2 turns an hour.

Even then you would be hard pressed just to roll dice and move pieces in the allotted time, especially Japan by mid-game, and Germany early in the game.

Although I sort of like Craig Yoper’s territory idea, I would like it a d*** sight more if it were officially recognized and accepted by Avalon Hill as the tournament standard.

Actually, I would like ANYTHING to be accepted by Avalon Hill as the tournament standard.

As it is, there are different tournaments, but no OFFICIAL tournament standard.  LHTR is close, but it is not the Official Deal.

WOTC/AH pays for Greg’s FTF tournaments at Origins/GCI. They consulted Larry on “tournament” rules specifically for this purpose. I’d say this makes LHTR the prominent ruleset.

We’re using a different Luftwaffe I found on these boards somewhere…bonus to each tank accompanied by a fighter…both attack on a four during the first round of combat.

So three tanks and three fighters is six fours in the first round…bad part is that it doesn’t work against ships.

But that game is over…all three Allies got Rockets, and Germany was being hit by six Rockets each turn…effectively no income. Japan’s southern force through Persia was hit 1-2-3 by Britain, America and Russia…India was likely to fall on Britains next turn…and Japan no longer had enough to break through on the other two avenues of attack…we just conceeded rather than wait for America and Britain to get their act together and take Berlin.

I hadn’t weighed in on this thread, but I just got a story to tell.

Yesterday I played a game against a good player.  It was time-limited.

No joke, in a 5 round game I built 9tra 1car with Germany.

And it WON the game for me!

It was ridiculous!

It was absurd!

It was outrageous!

It was sublime…

So German boats can be good.  That would have been excessive in 99% of the games I’ve played, but yesterday it was exactly enough to get the job done.  Simple lesson: the Baltic is important.

I begin to see the value in LL / No Luck games and in non-time limited games.

My entire strategies in my tournament game had to change because of a time limit.  It caused a waste of two turns because I forgot to take into account that there was a time limit in each round.  (not a round limit, that would have been easy to work with, but a time limit.)

needless to say, I’m never making that mistake again!

My opponent did do quite some havoc and his AF never dropped below 10 once he reached this at UK4…
But, like Jetfan4hire already posted: Probably that won’t work against an axis player who knows what he is doing…

G was crippled heavily short after with only 3 territories remaining - value 22 IPC’s
I know, I messed up really bad that game :-)
So, G didn’t have the force to strike back at the figs…
And that’s the reason why things worked out for my opponent…
