wow, I wasn’t expecting that?

No big deal. I am just not in tune with making a turn every 3 + days (at least not at the moment). So - I went into Japan’s turn on auto-pilot - attacked India, even though I had no intent to (nor should have) and it went horribly wrong - with planes missing in huge numbers. At this point, Japan is crippled and, as mentioned, I had lost my focus on what I wanted to do a long time ago (not your fault, I am just saying that the longer periods of time between turns threw me off).
