A lot of posters seemed stunned at this scenario, never scene it ever happen or even could happen. Now that I mulled it over last night and looked at the rules and so forth it is very obvious to me why no one has ever scene this scenario. Because the scenario makes no logical sense.
Italy DOW on Russia and moves in 2 tanks into Eastern Poland.
Russia is now at war with Italy and can DOW on Germany at the start of their next turn, turn 3.
Germany on Turn 3 does not DOW on Russia and just non combats into Eastern Poland.
Russia at the start of Turn 3 DOW on Germany and off we go.There is no logical reason why Russia would not DOW on Germany at the start of Turn 3, none.
Heck you could argue that it makes no logical sense that Germany did not DOW on Russia at the start of G3 since Italy brought Russia into the war and Russia WILL DOW on Germany on R3.
Hi PainState,
From my perspective, if I was planning on doing a G3 Barbarossa AND I wanted to drive towards the south, then yes, it makes sense to not DOW. My stack will be together except for the minimum required mobile units and maybe 1 AAA in Poland so Russia doesn’t attack Poland to get their NO for occupying an Axis territory. But E. Poland will be real strong because the German air will be there and maybe bombers will also be in range of a raid on the Moscow factory. Also, 5 IPCs is more income than I’d probably get as Germany on the 1st turn.
There are a few disadvantages of course. 1, Russian blockers can’t be attacked. 2, the Scandinavian units are behind. But for me that’s ok, I just use them to lay siege anyways. I never expect to get Moscow on turn 6 anymore. I assume that the UK/Anzac and that lone French fighter are going to get to Moscow.Â
Rule Clarification - AAA units

Please help,
at P.18 (Europe 2nd rulebook)
“If you moved any units into unoccupied hostile territories or hostile territories that contain only facilities and/or AAA units, no actual combat is necessary. Simply skip to step 7 (Conclude Combat) for each of these territories and remove any AAA units that might be in them.”
at P.27
“Air Defense: An AAA unit can fire at an air unit only when that unit attacks land and/or air units in the territory containing that AAA unit. AAA units fire only once, before the first round of combat.”
So I assume , if a defending territory has only 1 AAA,
1) if i attack with just a INF, than no combat, automatic win and AAA destory
2) if i attack with 1 INF and 1 FIG, does AAA got the first shoot? then got destoryed?
3) if i attack with just 1 FIG, does AAA got the first shoot also? then got destoryed? -
All true, but attacking with 1fgt is not smart if you can autokill it with a inf.

Welcome, Westernian!
As a point of clarification, if a territory containing only AAA (and possibly facilities) is attacked with only air units, the AAA are destroyed only if at least one of the attacking air units survives the air defense fire.

So air units can attack an AA gun directly?
For example, UK starts out with 1 AA gun, 1 infantry and 1 fighter on Malta. Let’s say the fighter and infantry leave so the only thing left on Malta is the 1 AA gun. Now Italy has a fighter sitting in Libya and want’s to destroy that AA gun.
First, the AA gun gets a shot @1 at the Italian fighter. Of course, if it gets a hit, the Italian fighter is immediately destroyed. However, if the AA gun misses, does the fighter have to roll a 3 or less to hit the AA gun? OR, is it automatically destroyed? -
