Slackaveli, the tech is the same as old rules and continued in to Global, except research is not lost like it is in Global.

              5 if Allies control either FrNce or Balkans.
Japan:     5 if control all: Manc, Kiangsu and French Indo- China.
             5  if con 4 of: Kwant, EI, Borneo, Phil, New Guinea or Solomons.
             5 if control one of: Hawaii, Aus or India.
US.         5 if con all West, Central and Eastern US.
             5 if con Philippines.
             5 if Allies control France.
             5 if control 3 of: Midway, Wake, Hawaii or Solomons.

If you play with tech, radar and increased factory production can both strongly discourage SBR.

I have never been in a game of who can roll the most ones since classic, with 3 dice heavies.  I play a variety of opponents and rarely get SBR’d.  And it’s not because I have techs or interceptors on.

Like axis said, sometimes you get sick of these kinds of games (I can imagine), but since I’ve never had an opponent bomb me much, I look forward to the day that someone does.

In AA50 I’ve never seen someone use SBR as an attacking strategy.  Many players don’t do anything at all with their bombers some turns, when they could be SBR’g.  I even played someone who had heavy bombers from round 1 with Germany, and some turns let 3-4 heavies sit there idle while UK remained untouched (yes, this mystified me).  But people don’t want to lose their bombers to AA fire.  SBR is very risky.  You can take in 2 bombers, and it seems like I usually lose 1, so I’ve lost 12, and the recipient loses 1d6.  Now I know that’s not the way to run an SBR campaign or anything, but I’m just saying why a lot of folks won’t bother, if there’s an AA gun.  Besides, the cap on damage limits efficiency in many cases (reduces average below 3.5 per surviving bomber) and you don’t bomb money directly anymore, so the victim does have some options many times.

What I’m trying to say is, I’ve only seen SBR when people don’t know what else to do with their bombers for a turn, or there is no defense (no AA gun).  Bombers are extremely useful in attacking military units, and that’s the way I and most of my opponents use them.

Or you can just download the rulebook from the WOTC site, grab extra units (from other or older games), paint them to match, print a map out created by Imperious Leader and you should be on your way.

This is what I did any way.  Although I went as far as to recreate the Combat board, IPC chart and National Objective/Setup Charts.

So….

Yes… the Submarine gets to shoot at my transport during combat (and i should not have brought the transport along)
No… I may not land my troops after the surface warships are cleared, simply because there was a battle in the first place and the sub is still there
Yes… I may retreat my dumb transport and fighters

OK, so this whole debate arises from the rule that tells you to place one of your control markers under your AA gun if you move it into a territory controlled by a friendly power, correct?  There is no corresponding rule that says that if I capture your AA gun when I capture your territory you should place one of your control markers under it.  So, we have one fairly rare circumstance when I can capture your gun when it has your marker (in your ally’s territory) and another far more common one when I can capture your gun when it doesn’t have your marker (in your territory).  In neither case am I directed to retain the existing marker or place a new one.

In addition, the rules indicate that if you or your ally recapture the territory and AA gun, the ownership of both goes to the capturing power, or to original owner of the territory if it’s liberated.  No mention is made of returning the AA gun to its original owner.

Doesn’t that indicate that I get to keep the AA gun completely free of any strings tying it back to you?  And wouldn’t that include technology?

I still view the Allies with a slight adv b/c of the number of Round 1 attacks the Axis must do, particularly Egy.

As for bids, we didn’t use them in our tourney and the Allies are holding their own quite well.  I think they are up a few games thru 23 games.  It might be like 13-10 Allies right now.

In the League we do use bids, but that is also used to determine sides.  A lot of times both players may bid 0 and just let sides be chosen at random.

I did just post a few stats in the League Forum (thru the first 12 completed) in the discussion thread and the Allies hold a 7 - 5 Adv in wins.  Avg bid was 1.3, but 7 games were played with a 0 bid and 2 were played with a 1 bid.

This makes common sense. I discussed this issue with Larry, and will edit in a link later. But the importent here is the production rate. The ship movement dont fit into this, because it took 12 days to cross the Atlantic, not 3 months.

When it comes to speed of play, as you put it, that is very a difficult issue. In the 1939 startline we had no guarantee that WW II would go on for 5 years. If UK, France, USA and Russia had attacked Germany in 1939, then the war would have lasted 1 year, because of an alternate decision. If Hitler had not done all his mistakes, the war might have lasted for 10 years. Just look at the Vietnam war, that lastet for 20 years, in one tiny territory. And the Iraq war 1990 lastet 100 days. The speed of production are fixed, the speed of movement and play are not.
