The thing is that any of these could be considered a “utopia” but for the “human factor”.
@Lizardbaby:
Utopia can only exist with perfect people in it. Put in a goober or two and it’s no longer Utopia.
@Desertfox:
You need a government because people will be people. A utopia doesn’t come with perfect people.
I agree with Lizardbaby here.
It is an Utopia. It is perfect, that’s why it is utopian.
That is also the reason why you don’t need a government. Every citizen is fully aware of what the society needs at any moment and acts according to needs of the society (that’s if you want that to be like that). There is no “human factor” … nor any other link to reality :), unless you wish it to be there.
@cystic:
… Maybe that collective thing-y that peasant in The Holy Grail was talking about . . . .
@Lizardbaby:
That said, with perfect people only working for the common good I would say a true Democracy would be Utopia.
@stukapilot:
That’s why I said that anarchy would be the closest thing. No government. No rules. No wrongdoing.
Well, most of the utopian views like Marxism, “true capitalism”, anarchy, utopic socialism are “true Democracy” and anarchy, both at the same time. Look at “tru capitalism”, there you need no laws, no government, as the forces of the market will make everything work fine.
stuka: anarchy is self-defeating. it is not a government type, or even society type, merely a temporary classification in times of transition. nature abhorrs a vacuum. whenever there is a power void, it will be filled. anarchy cannot last. it is the most (by a factor of 10x10^infinity) unstable system.
Janus, i have to say: you are wrong here. As i mentioned, Anarchism had quite some followers in the 19th century. It was not seen as the “chaos” that the conservatives tried to link with it, but as the absence of oppression, as total freedom. So, you might check your views and maybe read a book about it, see for example http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1931/biblio.html
And this “the nature abhorrs a vacuum” …. well, that has been proven wrong science more than hundred years ago.
and last: 10*10^infinity = 10^(infinity+1) = 10^(infinity) = infinity …
@Desertfox:
If I did my utopia the way I wanted I would get an F on the Project.
Depends on your techers. A good teacher will accept an opposing view if you argue well to defend it at least against the first two “waves” of objections.
