    I have to learn how to save in the middle of a battle

    You can’t do it if you are literally at the dialogue box where you pick casualties, you have to be at the stage where it says Germans (or whatever) Click to Select X Casualties.  If you’re at the casualty-picking UI, you can hit cancel to get back and save.

    I had 70+% odds to have an outright win there, and even failing that I had great odds to make sure the Italians could finish off any possible US fleet, but my navy whiffed that first roll too badly.  I really needed just 1 Carrier hit that I didn’t get… ah well.
