My quoting of that post was to show why this statistical endeavor misses the point of the discussion of the rule change. Therefore it applies to this thread.
The Turkish Straits are entirely contained within the territory of Constantinople, so moving from Constantinople to Bulgaria does not require crossing the straits. As the straits are contained within a single territory and not at a border between territories, transports are never needed to cross them.
It doesn’t matter what the odds are. Fighters may attack a hostile territory as long as at least one infantry also attacks (all of the units end their move in the same territory, so the infantry satisfies the fighters’ land unit requirement). Of course, if there is only one infantry, all of the fighters will have to be taken as casualties before it can be taken (see page 19 of the rulebook).
I appreciate your help but what I’m looking for isn’t in those sections. Somewhere, I swear, I found a completely revised color rule book. Everything was formatted to make it look very much like the original rule book. Occasionally, to accommodate the additional text lines, some of the pictures were changed or revised. When I saw it, I printed out a copy and then, rather than saving it, physically cut-and-pasted/taped the changes onto the hard-copy original rule book that came with my game.
Krieghung, thanks for the quick response. That poor Russian battleship in SZ12 has to thread the needle through SZ11 and SZ10 even if there are no ships there and I guess once the UK Navy is gone in SZ29, you just need to start ground pounding your way through Ottoman to get into the fight.
I don’t agree with Shakespeare’s point but I definitely agree that these games are leaving a lot to be desired. Not just from a rules perspective but from a piece perspective. Battle board is tiny. No money and lack of German infantry and chips for both sides. I have played with the new tournament rules however and do love them. If you have the game Shakespeare give them a shot I really like them. I think you will too.
I don’t agree with the two space rule change for land units. Land units in World War 1 were not mobile and if you are looking for a game with full mobility the original axis & allies WOII games are a much better choice.
However I do see the potential of limiting the capacity of producing units in India to 5. Playing UK is much harder as you have to keep producing units in India to keep the Ottomans away and also have to build a navy in the west to threat the Germans. The UK simply lacks the IPC to help the Russians in this scenario since a decisive victory against either the Ottomans in the East or against the German navy in the west is very hard to accomplish. In the two games we have played with this rule Russia Revolution has occurred.
You can evacuate a contested tt, but not use such a move to attack. The tt you move to must contain one of your own units (allies do not count).
It says that in mobilize units, if you have a tt with other land units but no infantry, you must demote one unit to an infantry to fulfill the “minimum 1 inf” criteria.
It is sensible to enforce this after movement as well if you spot the enemy has made such an error.
