@Mn-guy Yes, other units can participate in the sea battle. Other than being a prelude to an amphibious assault, it is just like any other sea battle. The rules on page 15 mention only battleships and transports because they are the only units that can participate in the land battle.

As a side note, attacking air units must, of course, be assigned to either the sea or the land battle, as indicated by where they end their combat movement. They cannot participate in both, even if the amphibious assault is against an island.

When I made my observation I didn’t use the auxilary conditions (tactics and strategy cards) I thought this could sway the game in the same way the NO and Tech do in revised and AA50.

When I first started thinking the game was slanted to the Axis I played the Allies every time vs. players who have never heard of A&A.

I’m not saying I’m god’s gift to the A&A world but since I have been playing for over 10 years I thought I would have a leg up on a newby.

I also made it a point to only play 2 player games.  I thought that since the allies would be able to coordinate better this would also help.

I think a better way to balance the game would be to make it 15 rounds instead of 10.

The best part of A&A D-Day is that it goes by very quickly.  You could probably play a game in under an hour.  Each round goes by faster and faster and events happen.  For example the allied airborne drops are first turn only, allied bombers get shot down, allied fighters get shot down, Axis blockhouses that fire at sea zones get destroyed and lastly reinforcments run out.  By the 10th round you could have removed a half dozen cards out of the deck.

I do that quite often. Usually when I’m trying out a new strategy or when I just feel like playing :D .

There is - look for them (Axis and allies, and Iron Blitz) - prolly find them on ebay.

Guest: Your friend could probably be refering to some of the expantion packs. I have tried two different packs. Both with new kinds of boats. Half-battleships, escorts, and destroyers. Could be more, i dont remember.

My odds calculator tells me that there is about a 25% chance of the bomber winning, 25% chance of the BB winning and 50% chance they both die. This assumes one-hit BB and no heavy bombers

Considering that while the BB costs more IPCs than the bomber, keep in mind it can do potentially much less attack damage (one time potential hit only on amphibious assaults) and on defense is essentially equal to only two transports (my odds calculators says 45% BB, 45% transports, 5% both die) I wouldn’t worry about it. Let them bomb away and your opponent will likely lose their bomber.

However, if you really don’t want to lose the BB, just make sure you keep a transport or two with it for “fodder”.

Its usually not a good idea to split up your navy anyway, I always make sure to keep some transport or submarine fodder next to the powerful and expensive ships whenever possible. As for land operations, you should always keep cheap (infantry or transports) weapons alongside expensive items (BB or bombers) so if they are attacked, the cheap items can be eliminated first.
