Aircraft movement

It dosen’t seem like there is much enthusiam for this option. As for fighter escort protection it depends on ones preference for choice pickings or massed rolls. In pacific the choice is between rolls of 2 or  less vs  4 or less.

Just a point of clarification: planes are always “in the air” during combat phases in Guadalcanal, whether they move or not.  I assume you mean that it’s a good idea to move them off carriers or islands where there won’t be any fighting for potential movement flexibility later in the turn.

That is exactly what I mean.

And to be specific be sure to move new fighters off your base in combat movement so they’ll be able to land on carriers in the slot to replace losses or land at your forward airfields.

Both the Battles of the Eastern Solomons and the Santa Cruz island battles were carrier battles which were part of the Guadalcanal Campaign.

We lost the Hornet in the Santa Cruz Battle and Nagumo was relieved of his command after the fight and the Japanese lost the Ryūjō at Eastern solomons. The biggest losses were to Japanese Air Crews and these two fights basically finished off the veterans.

Well the Japanese Sub I-19 torpedoed and sunk the US Carrier Wasp operating south of the Solomons in support of the Guadalcanal campaign.

Now you can use your sub and sneak up enemy forces behind the “front line”. And only the possibility that a lonely destroyer could be escort by some subs can bring some confusion to the other player.

And if I had the chance to secretly deploy a newly build sub … perhaps with a secret stack of supply tokens? The other player knows that I have supply tokens in that stack and knows how much I have put inside, but don’t know whether I use these token for deploying or not …

it acutally speeds things up because you are move all your ships at once and not waiting for your opponent to move one class, than another, than another…

I have played the game now and the instructions are not clear on one thing.

Do you only pay supply to move ships from the cards during deployment or do you also pay during movement as well?  I noted the instructions show you only pay during deployment…

If you want to move ships or planes from the island card during the deployment phase you must use a supply or more depending on where on the board you want to go.

All other movement does not cost a supply.

How did this strategy work? It seems like a lethal idea since mainly all the japanese need to do is stall the americans :evil:
