Technology for Germany?

Consider scrambling in 110 to kill two German planes (if the Bismarck is on 111). Killing German planes is huge because it reduces the multi-pronged threat that the Luftwaffe becomes.

Then again losing 3 fighters vs 2 of germany does not help the allies out that much. Also i would do this combat first as germany and if i got your whole airforce and if i whiped it all out i might actualy not strafe the 111 combat and take out all the UK air round 1.

since i normaly send 2 subs vs the cruiser off gibraltar italy is in a good spot.

Now taranto will be interesting with 1 dest-1cruiser-1AC 1 fighter 1 tactical 1 bomber vs my cruiser-battleship-3fighters, and the malta battle will be figher vs destroyer also not great odds.
And italy having 2-3 transports round 1 is a lot more painfull then germany having 2 fighters extra.

It’s a gamble for sure, All depends on the bid in the med. If Taranto works then Germany could be down another plane.

And if you send 2 subs against the cruiser then 110 could turn to be disastrous for the Axis.

Thanks for finding time for the write up. 1940 is a game you can play 100s of times and still not master it, so don’t worry if you feel you could improve on Germany. Will just have to play again!
It does sound,  however,  like next time you will have to hire the room until 6am and take turns sleeping under the table.

I prefer one of two types of technology,

1a: to gain a technology you need 20 research points, every time you roll, you add the number you roll to your current research points,
1b: to gain a tech you need 10 research points, if you roll 4-6 you get two points, if you roll 1-3 you get one point
1c:  to gain a tech you need 10 research points, if you roll a 6 you get 3 points if you roll 4-5 you get two points, if you roll 2-3 you get one point if you roll a 0 you get 0 points

2: every time you fail a roll you get a research counter, every time you roll for a tech you get +1 for each counter

ofcourse all bonuses and extra point are removed once you get a tech.

one thing that can be added is;

if a nation has a tech, then this tech is available for all allied powers to purchase after that powers next turn, and all opponents after two turns, the cost for this is 15 ipc. (so if us gets a tech on US4, then UK can buy it on UK5 and germany can buy it on G7, while Italy can buy it on I6)

I’ve been using Most Holy’s Research Fac. rules basically it’s what was listed above but each power can have 4 not 3.

Ok, everyone, I tried out this strategy and ultimately conceded that game.  Here’s the thread if you’re interested:

If you’re going to try this out, make sure Japan tries SOMETHING in S. America J3 to tie up the US for at least a few rounds.  US had like $92 for most of the game, and the Axis dropping the ball in the Atlantic/Med made it WAY too easy for the US to whup up in Europe.  Also, I played Italy like a demented retard, as the Italian BB had some awesome rolling killing TWO separate 95%+ UK attacks, and I also gave up a FREE IC in Egypt TWICE.  Don’t let the True Neutrals distract Italy, especially if you’re lucky enough to have your BB survive UK1!  Take Egypt and build/seize that IC on it!

Also, don’t throw away the German airforce in the Med trying to help the Italians, build a minor IC in Yugo and build subs or your fleet moved in from Gibraltar; I keep telling myself that every game, and every game I end up with just a few planes on the carrier by G3-4.
