this is mostly true but there are a few exceptions:

as he says, all planes can fly over anything except neutrals that aren’t violated yet.

boats can ignore transports and subs and move right through them or end movement in the same sea zone as them. one restriction is that transports can’t load or unload in a sea zone with a a sub unless there is a surface warship along with it.

subs can ignore (move through) all ships except destroyers. they can also end their movement in sea zones containing any ships on non-combat.

I think those are the only exceptions for units blocking movement or being able to move through territories. If I forgot anything, one of the better players than me will notice it  :-D

I like to find ideas and optimized them inside specific guidelines.
These last one was invented while writing on it, never know that something that I found also interesting could come out of it!

However, it needs someone like you to come with the big picture and completely outside the box ideas.

I had a strategy of building a naval base on Midway and basing my fleet there for a while.  It has some advantages on paper - very difficult to block, Bombers launched from there can attack Tokyo factories or support a landing in Japan, plus all your planes on the carriers and such can support landings as well.

In practice, it’s never worked very well.  Japan tends to ignore the fleet and focus southward, or Germany takes advantage of the USA’s pacific focus to wreak havoc on Russia.

I have tried a similar tactic where I base my navy in sz 8 with airbase and navy base at aleution island. I have similar experinces, but the problem might be you start beeing agreesive too early with the USA

I think the Italian fleet is there to replicate the attack on Taranto. It is like, why is France there, if only to be killed by the Germans. Or why have a British fleet, if it will be mostly sunk. However, there are two subs in the area that can attempt to sink the carrier and destroyer, but it might fail, and the might leave you with more British ships alive by England, and that is not good.
I am playing the game on Saturday, so I’ll post my opinions afterwards.
