Minor factories on capure of territory

My original calculations did not even consider that Japan has to repair the damage it causes. That extra cost means that over two rounds of strat bombing Japan is at around zero net-gain even if no strat bombers were lost in the process.

When the US declares war on it’s 3rd non-com phase, the minor complexes are immediately converted to major and then the US can place 8 units in eastern US on it place units phase, right? Or do the complexes get converted on US’s next turn?

  Curious as to where you came up with the number 8. As minors produce 3 units and majors 10 units.

The particular game we were playing at that moment, the US had 8 units it wanted to place, assuming the complexes were able to be converted……but we had it all wrong anyway as we learned from this thread.

No, you are not missing anything. That is a perfectly legal move. I am assuming that the Allies still control Gibraltar, right?

In fact, in your example, since Gibraltar has a friendly naval base (assuming it hasn’t been bombed), the US fleet could go all the way to Sea Zone 95 and park right next to Italy if Italy had no ships there OR they just had submarines and/or transports. Even if Italy had fighters on their air base, they couldn’t scramble because it is the US NON-combat move.

You can basically move your ships to any sea zone you want as long as there are no enemy surface warships blocking your way, or as in your example you have cleared any enemy warships.
Of course, that US submarine would have to remain in the sea zone just east of Gibraltar since it moved in the combat movement.

The jerk part was a little pot shot at your username. My apologies.

I’m in a slow moving game with my cousin right now. It is still the same game from when i first posted this (ie, the first time ive tried a major IC in Romania). It worked like a charm. I just took Moscow on what i THINK is G5, could be G6, with 10 tanks leftover. Italy doesn’t have egypt yet due to the UK being strong, but the Romania major IC will now pump everything down to the middle east and hopefully secure the win.

The Romania Major IC worked well with Japan only declaring war on Russia (he stacked in Amur so I took it out). Right now, because i am terrible with Japan, I’m sort of on the ropes, but I bought myself enough time that i should be able to win on the Europe board.

We just ran into this last night.

A damaged minor complex may not be upgraded, so any damage on the industrial complex must be repaired at the same time that the upgrade is purchased.

To put it another way, once the battle is over, you no longer have the option of retreating.
