• @Imperious:

The best episode was a two part Galactica 1978 titled “The Living Legend” with the illustrious Commander Cain ( Jeff Bridges). It was basically the battle of Midway in space and John Colicos was particularly prominent in these episodes.

That was the original Pegasus episodes wasn’t it?

    Star Trek.

I love Star Wars, but feel like Star Trek is a much… better franchise. It is philosophically deeper than Star Wars and has had some very good actors in it. I grew up on TNG and it will always be my favorite. Though my appreciation for the rest of the universe (minus Enterprise and the new movies) is just as strong.

    Never really watched Battlestar Galactica.

    right two parts

  • Top 10 Must see Star Trek episodes: (no particular order)
    1.  Yesterday’s Enterprise, TNG, Season 3 (Riker dies!)
    2.  Best of Both Worlds P1&2, TNG, Season 3/4 (Death is irrelevant! Greatest Cliffhanger ever!)
    3.  City on the Edge of Forever, TOS, Season 1 (Great Butterfly effect episode!)
    4.  The Visitor, DS9, Season 4 (How can you not get teary eyed on this one?)
    5.  Timescape, TNG, Season 6 (Smiley face in the Warp core breech!)
    6.  In Purgatory’s Shadow, DS9, Season 5 (Last two minutes make you go “OH SHIT!”)
    7.  Sacrifice of the Angels, DS9, Season 6 (Dukat!)
    8.  All Good Things, TNG, Season 7 (best final episode for a series, EVER!)
    9. Caretaker, Voy, Season 1 (great start, unfortunately, the episodes couldn’t live up to it, with exception of the Year of Hell)
    10.  The Changing Face of Evil, DS9, Season 7 (Damar’s speech is spectacular)

CHAIN OF COMMAND!!!  Only the best two TNG episodes out there.

And I disagree with Timescape. It was pretty good, but not worthy of a top 10 IMO.

Only Part 2 is worth anything…Granted, “Four Lights” is epic, but as a two part episode, it pales in comparison to not only Best of Both Worlds, but the Gambit (season 7) is better as a whole than Chain of Command.

  • I disagree with your list as well Mallery except the top 3 and “All Good Things.”

Your most egregious error  :-) is leaving off “In The Pale Moonlight.”  If you’re gonna trot out all of that DS9 and “Caretaker” from Voyager (really? not to pile on Voyager but that isn’t even top 5 Voyager let alone top 10 of all Trek) how can you leave off one of the best Sisko, best Garak and best spy stories in all of Trek?

I think you’re full of crap… but that is beside the point.

In my view, all two part episodes are (should be seen as) a single entity. The story is not complete in a single episode and they should not be treated in analysis as such.

Since I have seen relatively little DS9/Voyager, I will speak for the better TNG episodes you have neglected:

“Deja Q” - the funniest 45 minutes of Star Trek ever done; Q is stripped of his powers and can only use his sardonic wit as a weapon.
“Darmok” - an all time classic, if not one of the most creative; Darmok and Gelard at Tanagra.
“Time’s Arrow” - Data’s head under San Francisco, Mark Twain and aliens sucking the life force out of people… plus the crew gets to dress up.
“Starship Mine” - A well conceived and unique episode that is very fun to watch; Picard defends his deserted ship against terrorist/mercenaries.
“Frame of Mind” - Perhaps the second best TNG episode; creepy… and certainly wonderful watching Riker go insane.
“Masks” - Data acting strangely is always fun, but especially with multiple personalities and weird symbols on his forehead.

These are certainly some of the best, though I can proffer some other personal favorites such as “Birthright”, “Sins of the Father”, “Where Silence has Lease”, “Eye of the Beholder”, “Conspiracy” and “Booby Trap”, just to name a few.

The episode where Picard has to Surrender to Riker who is in control of a Klingon ship is the best one.

    “A Matter of Honor”

Or when the oil blob kills Tasha Yarr! Everyone’s seen that episode!

Yeah… that was the most lame death of a primary character I have ever seen.
