    @Boldfresh:

    why did you attack korea?   :-)

    I was trying to wipe out 4 infantry and a fighter, and gain 3 IPC’s in income  :lol:

    I sent this guy, so I thought it would work.

    I think if japan attacks mongolia at any time all strict neutrals become pro allies.  If russia has not attacked any japanese territory bordering mongolia then if japan attacks mongolia then mongolias become russians instantly.  I thought this also made all strict neutralspro allied whether japan had violated the pact or not.

    @Boldfresh:

    I don’t understand what you’re saying here.

    I will ask on the rules thread that I didn’t know was started a couple of months ago by freaking IL without telling us.  I don’t look through the boards for new threads.

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    No need to ask.  I re-read the rules as printed in the 2nd edition rulebook, and it is clear.  Mongolia is a strict neutral, and if Japan ever invades it, all neutrals in the world will turn pro-allied.

    So Japan can really only invade Mongolia a turn after it has turned Russian, by Japan invading one of the forbidden territories.  Which is exactly what Karl would always do, and it was an advantage to the Axis because of the strategic location and great size of Mongolia.  The only way to stop this is to invade Manchuria or Korea on R1.  Game on

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    My invasion of Korea is partly a protest of the Mongolia rules, and a statement of my belief that the rules actually favor the Axis more than the Allies when manipulated.  Once again, I think Larry blew it.  Just like he blew it when allowing Major IC’s to be built anywhere there was a territory of 3 IPC’s or more (people were apparently building USA majors in Norway and overwhelming the Europe theater.  Also, Japan could build major in Singapore and overwhelm the Allies inordinately).

    I think Larry is like Dr. Frankenstein.  He’s brilliant, but not capable of properly using his creation.  Many of his new rules and tweaks do not have the intended effect  :roll:

    Unlimited island-only scrambling, anyone?

  • 12

    you can only build a major in originally controlled territories, you know.

    @Boldfresh:

    you can only build a major in originally controlled territories, you know.

    Right, that’s my point.  He had to change that rule after he realized he’d screwed up.  Again.

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    Ahh, it’s been a long time since I played a game with Mongolia off the table….  :-)

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    Oops - I see I still hadn’t posted this, that I had typed awhile ago
    To answer your question - “why did you attack korea”

    More seriously, it’s my way of spitting on the ridiculous Mongolia rules.

    I think they are gratuitously complex, and actually serve to help the AXIS when surely they were intended to help the Allies.

    It seems that Larry failed to realize that the strategic importance of the geography of Mongolia is greater than the 6 infantry, 2 of which are too far east to do much of anything but get mowed down by the advancing hordes.

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    I saw a post where a player said that with the Mongolia rules, it now keeps Japan honest in the East.

    Poppycock.

    Giving 12 IPC’s immediately to Russia’s bank account was a much better deterrent.
    The Mongolia rules do the Axis a FAVOR, by opening up numerous attack options for the Japanese.  Without Mongolia, you have 2 choke points.  With Mongolia, you have none.

    The whole thing that slows down Japan in AA50 is 3 choke points.  They can’t coordinate all their forces, at least not easily.  Same with Revised and Classic before that.
    With the Mongolia rules, he’s regressing us back to Revised/Classic in that sense.  Now instead of JTDTM, it’s Japan Infantry March to Moscow. JIMTM  :-)
    At least the rules provide a way to foil that.  At the cost of 1 sacrificial lamb sent to Korea or Manchu.  :roll:  :roll:  :roll:

    Great - now I’m facing a J1 in both games and will probably mess them both up

    Remember the time you tried the same thing in multiple games all at once and then it didn’t work?

    I kind of anticipated this after the G1…  Going straight for the victory city win on both sides - probably one of the most effective Axis strats.  We’ll see.

  • 12

    you referring to your game with karl?  he’s japan and went with a j1 attack?

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    Sorry about the wait…. I don’t play A&A as many hours per week as I used to…
    I should have time soon though…

    JWW is trying to bump his way to a win, so I have to keep that one from going more than 3 days at a time…

  • 12

    no problem at all, i have more action than i can handle at the moment.

    Yeah, I’m prepared.  It’s that way with USA/UK in the first few rounds every time…  :-P

    I see AAA has USA at war with Germany and Italy.  This should not be.  I didn’t declare on them and they didn’t declare on me yet.  I wonder how you undo that… (not that it’s a problem for this game, but it is unsettling that AAA is not following the rules here - just because Japan declared war on the USA and the USA CAN declare war on Germany and Italy doesn’t mean she wants to - it’s not automatic)

    @Gamerman01:

    Yeah, I’m prepared.  It’s that way with USA/UK in the first few rounds every time…  :-P

    I see AAA has USA at war with Germany and Italy.  This should not be.  I didn’t declare on them and they didn’t declare on me yet.  I wonder how you undo that… (not that it’s a problem for this game, but it is unsettling that AAA is not following the rules here - just because Japan declared war on the USA and the USA CAN declare war on Germany and Italy doesn’t mean she wants to - it’s not automatic)

    wasn’t aware of that. what is a situation where the usa would not want to DOW germany/italy?

    If Germany left a sub in Z101, the Americans could avoid convoy disruption by not declaring war.
    If Germany had any surface ships and the USA would like to pass through that zone and ignore the ships - this is only possible when not at war.  I don’t think this could happen in the first turn, but I suppose if Germany neglected to declare war on USA on G2, then it could come up.

    Nevertheless, the USA is ABLE to declare war on G/I after J declares war on USA or attacks the UK/ANZ, but it is NOT automatic.

    Finishing UK now.  You don’t have to post the summaries at all, do you?  Just upload the map after the last consecutive turn?
