Monopoly

@ABWorsham:
Do we have any Monopoly fans on this forum? My sons have started a love affair with the game. We play every weekend.
I remember those days. My sisters recently went through it too. Was probably the first adult game I learned how to play, so that was probably part of the obsession. Problem is at that age that no one wants to play with you.

Monopoly is one of the best games ever!
However, i wanted a version with oil derricks, not hotels.
A combination of both could be fun.I always played with the $500 free parking and all fines go into free parking.

$500 is kind of a lot, no? We usually do $50. Sometimes we even play last property left goes to Free Parking, though if you land on it you can still buy it.

The fines ( say like income tax 10%) usually bring this fund to about $1500. Needless to say, players love going to jail. The rule should be while in jail you cant collect income from investments.
-
Since our kids are young and we need to keep the game around a three hour time frame we have started randomly dealing out the deeds of property at the begining of the game and keeping free parking empty. This has caused the game to run between 2 to 3 hours.

Good idea. I can remember playing like that.

Never make fun of the person with Baltic/med monopoly. Did that once, laughing at their only feeble monopoly. I even had boardwalk/park place and some other collateral. I then proceeded to make my rounds on purple while vacancy signs hung on my hotels. Yes, I am one of the few unlucky fellows whom have gone broke from those things … Grrr…
-
that one is only good in the early game, like railroads. At least according to the book.

Have never lost a game in Monopoly.
-
Hey - I never lost against my sister either.

I have a cut throat monopoly family and friends. One friend of mine uses Jedi mind tricks on the weakest player and ends with playing with two friends hands.
