Desperate for a good German Strategy!

@shaper why not just develop a strategy to go after England instead of Russia much easier target in my opinion because Russia is to far I have seen England fall before in 1 game I played as the axis I took England with Germany then I took Russia with Germany the following turn had great luck that day probably my greatest game of axis and allies it was the 1986 classic version

I have played many 5-way “every man for himself” A&A games. We’ve done it two ways, both original setup for each player (using the reference cards) and the scanario where everyone gets an equal number of units at the beginning, all to be placed on their capitals. We like the latter better, but both work.

For both versions, we set a time limit, and whoever has gained the most territory points at the end of the last round wins. Each player gets his country assignment randomly, and yes, it definitely makes a difference. GB is the toughest by far, so that player will have to use diplomacy to survive. Germany and Russia will fight each other to the death unless they form a nonagression pact (which is usually broken eventually). Japan and th US are in the best positions to win, but often end up in a similiar war of attrition as Germany/Russia.

I love this version of the game because it is totally open-ended, there’s no tried and true strategy to win. We make everything tradeable, IPC’s, territories, units, whatever. If you can make a deal, go for it. The only rule is that trades must be physically transacted during one of the “traders” turns.

Other than that, all standard rules apply. This might be right up your alley, Patriot. Give it a shot.

The basic stratagy is to get your men of the island and counter an allied factory in India. So you need more transports to get everything done…

i might add that the allies almost always control the uk seazone for the entire game. This is standard, and doesn’t mean they automatically win. First of all, germany can put alot of infantry in western europe. Suppose it’s turn 3, and uk has 4 transports, and usa has five, and they can all hit western europe. Germany can easily have 12 infantry (or 8 infantry and 8 tanks) plus 2-4 fighters and the aa gun. If they try to invade, they will either lose, or barely take it at high losses. If the uk buys a ton of transports, it has better chances, but it will severly delay movement of troops to karelia.

what i like to do, is put 7-8 infantry in western, and my tanks, and retreat from eastern. This way, you are using your tanks for defence which is very important, since you have a whole stack of them. Then you can hit eastern, and retreat from western, and then hit western and retreat from eastern. All the while, japan is getting big since all 3 allies are attacking germany.
The game usually amounts to, allies kill germany before japan kills russia. So as germany you usually turtle. Japan get’s big, and rolls for tech.

You really don’t need to go after the USA, but if you must, this is sometimes fun…

X= whenever opportunity knocks

On turn X, land 6-8 inf in Alaska. The USA will amass forces to come up to Alaska, but don’t worry, Alaska is not your objective… On turn X+1, move all naval units to Sea of Japan for reloading. On that same turn, lots of USA infantry will probably move into W. Canada, and that’s exactly what you want. On turn X+2 move your entire fleet to Hawaii, and take it with AT LEAST 10 infantry. This move is called “Check.” Now the USA has many land units in W. Canada, but has to worry about the invasion of California. Which direction should the units go? They could take Alaska, but it leaves W. Canada open and makes the American player heavily rely on whatever infantry he places in CA at the end of his turn. He could move everything to CA, but Canada is open again, and the Jap threat in Hawaii remains… either way, you’ve just disrupted about 4-6 turns of US movements to Europe… Germany can breathe now.

what about leaving it put, and building a transport turn 1. kill the med uk bb with sub and air.
this works, but you have to be careful not to send too much into africa or away from eastern europe…

look at it this way, T1 USA builds 3 Transports 4 infantry. At the end of this turn, USA has 5 Transport in the water (although the fate of the Pacific transport remains to be decided) T2 USA has 4 Transports load 8 inf into its Transports and puts them anywhere. Since it doesnt seem your making any Africa Effort, the Infanty can go to Finland- Normay. Britan builds an India Factory and 3 tanks, moving it’s transport into Blocking position so you can’t invade india. If China Survives, (You never know) America Retreats into Sinkang. Russia, seeing Japan playing aggresively, retreats into Novobrisk. Then, when(Max) 9 inf 3 tanks get into Yakut, Russia Counter attacks, destroying or at least killing a few. Turn 2 Britan attacks Indochina with 4 Tanks 2 infanry, more if he didnt block with his transport. Japan has been stalled, Germany has tons of Transport bound D-Dayers coming in, and Britan may just overwhelm Japan with it’s India Factory.
