That last naval battle didn’t matter if the US won or not.  UK would have finished off the last few units which was the point to clear the blockers towards egypt.  True I would not have piled onto N. Italy and held it, but it would have left 3 extra US transports(plus air) to attack rome followed up with UK.

So in order to hold rome the axis would have had to stack about 15 guys there to make it a coin flip.  That would have left egypt open since I could have attacked it with over 30 units.  The only way to try to hold both was not to finish off russia that turn and send all the german air to rome.

I would be very interested in playing out an alternate universe continuation (not for credit naturally) where the US achieves the average result to test if your assessment is accurate. I think you may be underestimating Axis options (though the Allies have so many options themselves I can’t play out the scenario by myself, especially since you’ve got a better Allied mind than I do).

We both had luck which shaped the game and you earned the win.

I am just curious if that battle actually cost the game or if I would have lost either way (absolutely admitting this is possible without seeing your alternate moves). Let me know if you’re interested, doesn’t have to be fast play.

You would need a transporter to get to the alternate universe to begin with and avoid your opposite selves when you do manage to get there.

I’d say 56-57% vs. Allies 32%. Try to set 4 Japan ACs first in the OOL, not the default calc order. The true is one more/less hit from any side and the percentages changes dramatically.

In fairness, it could be a lot of extra planning and time with the main benefit going to my A&A education.

If you want we can just continue assuming you win that battle with the tipped battleship and 3-4 fighters left.  Of course it would just be for fun since I can argue I lost the 97% ukraine battle basically cost russia.  That naval battle plus the wiping of the last japanese fleet was like the only good luck I got this game practically.  It will still come down to dicing since a lot of these battles aren’t really complete locks.

With the benefit of hindsight, I agree with you about Ukraine. Without the Soviet’s lousy luck in Ukraine, Germany would have had at best a coin flip shot at Moscow. Even if I had great luck, such a battle would still leave me too weak to secure victory.

Assuming my stated OOL and giving the Allies max offense in SZ95, 4 fighters and a damaged BB is most likely for SZ95. Irregular dice could shape the outcome still. However, I’m willing to risk that or play out the remainder as low luck (assuming we can change the game setting within tripleA), whichever you prefer.

And of course just for fun, so game on  :-) And just to reiterate, you absolutely won fair and square, I just want to satisfy my curiosity since we’ve missed the more climactic VC battles. I rarely get to see an Allied endgame that depends upon Western Europe and Africa rather than Eastern Europe!

I told you by PM and by thread post that I was waiting for your move (after I came back), almost two days before I claimed it. You have posted several times in other games, and I’ve seen you’ve been online several times as well. And yet you have said nothing nor recognised my post/PM that I was waiting for your move.
The fact that you had me waiting even before I was letting you know I would be gone, did not strengthen my patience.
