• @TG:

When’s the last time that the United States navy ever got attacked by an enemy sub?

That’s beyond the point. The best defense is a good offense. Consider the following article, it’s very interesting reading:

Straight out of Hitler’s own mouth right? And please explain to me how my statement was “beyond the point”

Oh my God, you honestly expect China to attack us? This is almost as ridiculous as the “Will US and China start WWIII?” topic we had once.

  • It’s beyond the point in terms of whether we should revolve our national security around it. You have to be prepared for everything. I could ask the same question in terms of “when’s the last time somebody launched a nuke at us?” Now, does that mean we shouldn’t take precautions against such enemies?

Is there no way to compromise with you? I’m not saying, “Opps… one of our subs hit a whale - let’s decide to scrap the entire navy since saving the whales is… ummm, good… yeah… good.” But as F_alk pointed out, is the 60% of the open seas good enough for you? Especially in times of peace, can the Navy at least show some restraint? I’m not saying, lets stop using sonar, but to limit ourselves in accord. And I’m sure your point about “revolving our national secruity” is beyond the point as much is mine. And what’s to stop us from the nth degree? If Country X could one day be a threat to us, whats to stop us from conducting war games off their coast? Afterall, we have to be prepared for EVERYTHING. Compromise. It’s not just some word.

  • Bomb the whales!

  • I hope you don’t represent every conservative out there… :-?

  • um…doesn’t the navy get us to the otherside of the world to invade Iraq? Transports today could get shot away with out protection…

    and these  ….

Saudi Arabia wouldn’t let us use airbases so just make 'em floatable…

The US navy doesn’t need to worry about whales…

Dang it!!! hat was me again forgot to log in  8)

  • TG, I was completely kidding on that, and if you didnt get that, than sorry. I have nothing but respect for the whales. Bomb the Dolphins!

  • It wasn’t that… I don’t like whales much either (dumb evolutionary retards), but your post had no relevance to a serious dicussion at hand. There is better spam posting than that.

posting what everyone else is thinking again, eh?
And i have to agree with the doves out there. why is it necessary for America to own all of the seas? And would it be such a tragic event for teh US navy to not be dropping sonar all over the place? I mean there’s preparedness and then there is overkill.

True. It’s not like we can blanket the entire ocean with sonar anyway. A determined group of people with a nuclear sub would most likely be able to evade the Navy long enough to get their missile fired. They would likely get captured, but that wouldn’t bother them.

  • theres no such thing as overkill. and yes, the US navy should own the entire ocean. as long as they realize the army is superior to them

I have no problem with the Navy owning the entire ocean, it’s just the fact that they can’t patrol it all. Now, if we had underwater cities, that would put a different spin on the matter.

  • that would be cool. but if they cant patrol all of it, just increase its size

I don’t think it is the responsibility for the US to patrol the entire ocean in the first place…

  • TG, it’s a matter of national security. It’s not like the Navy is out there in nuclear subs just for FUN! :P

  • I don’t know D:S. I hear there’s some pretty wild parties on those subs. 8)

Besides, what about “international waters”? It’s not like they’re all “US waters”.

  • The waters belong to whoever has he biggest guns. 8)
