What is a good first move for russia?

I have always had great success with a “standard” opening move for Russia.  Buy 8 infantry.  Take all land forces that can reach, plus the Russia fighter and take Manchuria.  Unless you are totally blasted on dice, you will take this territory with 1 or 2 land pieces remaining, and the fighter to retreat to Yakut (which is protected by 2 infantry moving up from Evenk in non-combat phase).  The Eastern Europe attack also serves to really screw up the Germans, forcing them to re-take territory in Europe rather than expanding.  Hit Eastern with the fighter, all Karelia infantry, and all available tanks.  You will succeed in this battle, though all of your tanks get blown away on Germany’s next move.  Retreat your fighter back to Karelia.  Use your fleet to attack the sub and transport.  I have tried variants of naval usage, including a lot of attempts at using Russia’s navy to help protect the initial British fleet.  It never works (the German attack is mostly air power, so you only add a little cannon fodder and a 1 defense).  So instead go on the attack and remove the transport threat from Karelia, as well as sinking a pesky sub to free up your UK air force for other purposes.  Remaining non-comabt moves, shift 3 infantry from Caucuses to Karelia, shift 2 infantry from Russia to Karelia and the other 2 Russian infantry to Novosibirsk (to be moved forward to Yakut to replace the Evenk infantry now there that will be used next round on a second Manchuria assault, or to move into Sinkiang if Japan focuses on southeast Asia.  Finish off placing 6 infatry in Karelia and 2 in Russia.  If you are well supported by the UK building up offensive forces and attacking Norway then other targets of opportunity as they arise, Russia can continue to “mixed build” sending 2 infantry East each turn with the balance facing Germany.  Using this strategy, if Russia can alway remain at 24 IPC or higher (they will have 30 at the end of turn 1), the Axis can’t win (unless USA and UK are simply totally inept).

Those Russian planes aren’t worth taking risks with… even if you pump UK and USA planes into Russia for defense later, in the beginning those planes can make a big diff on the Eastern Front (vs. Japan) esp if Japan is trying to go all out on Russia and knock on the back door.

USA should help but it is not a priority usa does this by sendig its eastern fighter to the most western part of africa it can also send its bomber but that would be unwise (you can probrbly geuse why) :lol:

LOL, not in any ways a Vietnam Vet or born even close to that time period. Where did you manage to get that from? But the statement made by Sir Yanny about North Vietnam is more of a misnomer. In the Linebacker I and II aerial offensives, we bombed much of North Vietnam to smoking ruins. In fact, it was the success of the linebacker II operation that persuaded North Vietnam first to cave in and negotiate on the conference table with America, not the other way around.

But the use of nuclear weapons? What’s not to say that Soviet supplied North Vietnamese couldn’t have done the same to us?

Japan can’t go tit for tat against America or they let America outspend them. In the first turn the nearby british navy must be destroyed, or at least pocket your naval forces in large numbers. Take India with nearby aircraft you can muster. Playing with the houserule that russia can’t attack on first turn, mass troop south of russian border and prepare for assault by next term. Within one to three turns Japan can have complete superiority over Asia depending on what Russia does in the east and what America does in the Pacific. IT takes america at least two turns to attack Japan itself, or they can invest themselves fully against germany or with an island hopping campaign.

If america tries ot out build your navy, simply buy planes and subs, America can;t go tit for tat, and if they didn’t move fast against Germany, then they wasted their time.

An island hopping campaign hurts america’s ability to replenish their fleet, thus you can out number and destroy it.

It all does with execution of your plan. Take Asia, and Japan will have more bread than a prison meatloaf. By then if you are playing world domination, it is probably in Japan’s best interest to elminate continental powers first russia, then germany.

I’m getting ahead of my self.

Tell me if i’m wrong, but Japan’s road to victory is domination in Asia, not destroying any American fleet. By the the time America can attack Japan, Japan can buy last minute forces to outdo an American invasion force. IT seems America must totally focus on taking Germany out and Africa, while staying with Alliance with Russia and the UK.

Japan must be a continental power or they fail.

I AM NOT SAYING ROLL ALL DICE FIRST TURN.
I am just saying that even though there is a risk in buying tech, don’t ignore it!
I usually roll tech when I don’t need an extra tank or inf next turn as Japan, US, or UK. Not all turns, not everything on one turn; one or two dice here and there throught out the course of the game.

The difference though is that Germany committing additional ground units to CAU means those units die R2.  Japan committing additional ground units to secure SFE does nothing for Russia other than pull them off China - Russia can’t really counterattack them because SFE is a Japan deadzone with their fighters, transports, and BBs.

It is somewhat micromanagement, we’re only talking about 2 IPCs and 1 inf, but I still think you’re better off just giving Jap SFE.
