    @ghr2:

I would still like to see g40 elevated to equal status as the others instead of relagated to a 2nd class game.  If we get more global players to these events, then maybe it will happen.

How do you suggest we get players to devote 10-12 hrs to this game. Remember if you even had Single elim, and had 8 “teams”, you would need all three days, 8 on Thursday, 4 on Friday, 2 on Saturday. Sunday is a no-go for obvious reasons.

    What do you suggest?

P.S.  My suggestion would be a “1942” start date with the global game. Thus, you could finish in less than 12 hours, and perhaps get more players.

Except none of the global games that my partner an I played at Gencon lasted more than 6-8 hours.  Hell, the g40 tournament was long over before the 50th ann and the 1942 tournies ended. I am willing to bet that one of the reasons there were not more global players was many of them(members of this website) could not make it to gencon for what ever reason.  My suggestion would be a time limit for the game and to have an IPC victory condition for the axis if time was really that much of a problem. Â

Anyways, can you please explain how just because there were fewer teams for global, means that they don’t deserve the benefits that 50th ann/1942 recieve?  Wouldn’t better benefits (at least equal to the other 2 board games) encourge more players to participate? Â

If ever Global brings in the most players (and thus the most $ for WOTC), then they should get the “best” or first choice of prizes. On that I’d agree. But they havent done so (far behind AA42 and AA50) and probably will be. You still got a game (albiet 1942 chose before you) so its not like you got a bad prize. Just not first choice.

As for “equal”, well WOTC only gave Greg 1 version of each. I’d assume once its released he will have more versions to hand out as prizes. After all, the LAST anniversary edition, worth $400+ wasnt given to the winners of the Anniversary tournament…

  • Where are the pictures of the new map changes or any new pieces?

  • Gve me some time. I’m working here……

  • I honestly don’t care that I did not get what I want (still will get it in a month anyway).
I was initially commenting about DJ’s statement on the tournament winners and I just pointed out a few things he missed.  I honestly don’t care about what I won or not, I am just saying since this was the first global 1940 tournament at Gencon that greg hosted and that g40 is still very new(new versions kept appearing every few months), it would be logical to assume that the number g40 participants would increase as the game becomes more popular and the rules become more stabilized. Â

I did expect that the 50th ann prize would of gone to the winner of the 50th ann tournament and not raffled off, but I was told that it would be difficult to share something of that value with a team.  WoTC gave greg 2 copies of each not 1, for the record.  1 was raffled off, and the other was given as a choice to the 1942/50th winners.  Also, there was no “choice” at all since we were given our prizes before you guys and only had the choice of the 3 small theatre games. Â

I have a hard time believing that 50th ann brings in more players than global since it costs close to 2-3x as much as E40 and P40 Combined.  1942, probably, but number of players should have nothing to do with first pick or not.

It does because most, if not all, of gencon players purchased it at the time it came out. Those who dont have it still play it with others in their group. Not everyone had to have a copy after all, just one of them.

That being said…yes, AA50 is the most attended event.

I just wanted to report that had a blast paying Axis & Allies at the convention! Greg (SmoreySwamp) runs a smooth operation - maximizing fun despite the fact it’s only 3.5 days of gaming. The prizes were amazing as well.

You really have to experience it to understand it. It’s a pressure cooker playing in a tournament and it’s a different game of Axis & Allies but still enormously fun.

You echo my thoughts exactly. It was a wonderful experience. And you were a great, classy competitor, our hobby gains much with you being a part of it. Thanks! :-)

  • Thank you for posting the pictures.  Great to see they got the setup correct and the Italian tank looks cool.  But may I be the first to say the Italian AA gun looks…. weird.

I like the Italian AAA, it’s very unique looking. Glad it’s using the new chips, our group played 42-2nd Ed last night and the guys loved the new chips and I’m glad we can get some more.
