@Krieghund Thank you. Very interesting how a technological breakthrough affects other core game rules here.
Classic Piece Identification
-
Has anyone idntified the pieces in classic?
The bombers look like B-17s
The tanks look like Panzer IIIsWhat are the fighters?
What are the other units?
-
As far as I know the equipment pieces in Classic are generic. And in the case of the sub, I’d call it “inaccurately generic” since it looks more like a modern sub than a WWII one.
-
I think you’re right - the closest I came with the fighter was a Zero, but the wing profile was still a little different.
-
Wish I had not thrown mine out when I moved house 2 years ago. (Before I found this forum.) Now only have fond memories. I think I bought mine in 91 in London.
-
Hey Wittman go to ebay. I looked yesterday you can pick up a used one for pretty cheap.
-
Thanks GoSanchez. I threw it out because I had too many games. Not just A&A.
Would like to see the map again and remind myself of the set up.
Thing is would never play it. Stopped playing it as I had bought newer ones.
And I am a married man now! -
Would like to see the map again
NO… you really wouldn’t…
-
That bad, Garg?
Been a while and I am one of those people who live in the past, so would enjoy the nostalgia.
Do not want to own it again, for storage space reasons and clutter. -
Pretty sure the fighter is Japanese. I think the ships are generic.
-
every piece is generic
-
Huh - I was going to post the same inquiry. After rifling through some old bits boxes… The transport could be a Victory/Liberty… but just as easily a common freight ship. The fighter - zero looks like, but hell, could be an avenger eh eh eh Sub - you’re right, looks pretty modern. That tank… is that spotlight on it? Bomber - B-17, though there are a couple USSR bombers it could be. I suppose they might have had the intention of being generic Yavid, but not too sure given the early state of those sculpts…
-
I’m saying there generic because Larry and Krieg has said they are generic.
-
EVERY piece is generic, except infantry.
-
but if you want to talk about what they kind of look like… I’ve always thought the fight looked like the American Buffalo fighter
-
I’m saying there generic because Larry and Krieg has said they are generic.
Ah - fair enough, did not know this (obviously). THe way they worded it on the box I wasn’t sure.
Hmm… the Buffalo huh? Yeah… I suppose so…
-
I just figure if you compare it to the units that we currently use it looks big and bulky
-
Just did - yeah… Actually isn’t that bad a sculpt, too bad it isn’t a little longer.
-
The bomber I have little to no idea, but it does kind of look like a poorly done B-17
-
Agreed. Tank is the one I always thought strange… that searchlight effect of that part on the turret section of the sculpt, good stuff in a way. Think I’ll try modernizing, using some clay bits to mount some searchlights on better sculpts…

The tank (to me) looks like a Panzer III with the 50mm gun, or maybe a short barrell Panzer IV
