• No country has ever made vegetables taste so good!

I love Saag ( no cheese or chicken), Plus Vegetable Korma, Tandoori Chicken, Tikka Marsala ( just the sauce over rice) and Aloo Gobi.

Note: you must love vegetables ( Saag is spinach, Gobi is Cauliflower). If you just like proteins you can’t go wrong with Tandoori Chicken.

Also food from Bangladesh cuisine is fantastic as well, similar tastes.

for rice i suggest Vegetable Biryani.

I hate to say this but start with Indian Buffet knowing most of the time this is not exactly like off the menu. Try a little of everything and you will find truth in this food.

  • @Imperious:

Yea no Sushi “Buffets”. That’s not real sushi. This is uber quality seafood and expect at least $50 per for a la carte ordering. Add more for Sake ( i don’t drink alcohol).

If your eating something under $20, that’s not by most accounts real Sushi.

Japanese food after Indian food is the best tasting food invented IMO.

I can find good sushi for under $20 including tip.  Of course I’m only getting a roll or two or maybe 8 pieces of nigiri but it will be good.  The sushi express things like in Kroger aren’t fantastic, but for what it is it’s pretty good and way better for you than say a burger.

Indian food is bomb too, I agree.  Thai and Mexican are up there for me as well.

  • Not Thai for me. They are always be looking for excuses to put peanuts over everything, when clearly Peanuts are a poor nation protein food filler and NOT Haute cuisine. I put that food near the bottom of world foods. Peanuts should only be in a can, roasted, and enjoyed at a ballgame, not over noodles…yuck.

The problem with Mexican food is it’s always the same 10 ingredients just put into different order to make different foods.

It’s always the same Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Cheese, Tortillas, beans, rice, beef, chicken, and pork. I get tired of that real fast. 1 million combinations of the SAME THING.

you lucky, you can’t get much but basic items over here.

  • I am a happy conservative Italian eater. My wife is a chef and her aim is to pervert my tastes( usually underhandedly). She is succeeding.
I will never eat sushi though.

Pad thai would not be what it is without the peanuts, but there is plenty of other dishes without peanuts.  The aforementioned curries as well as Tom Yum and Tom Ka soups.  Extra delicious.

Yes and no.  Those are all often found regularly (as well as chiles) but that is also mostly Tex Mex.  There is a pretty good variety of food in Mexico and varies on the terrain and location.  The coast has a lot more seafood and inland you may find things like cactus in your dish.  I will eat anything from Mexico pretty much, but my favorites are chile rellenos and ceviche (which isn’t strictly Mexican but found often in the more authentic restaurants).

Like I said though, there’s is a caveat.  I easily spend $50 on myself eating sushi, but I don’t need to eat that much.

  • Guess I was not alone on the Todai Schaumburg Sushi Buffet’s  quality decline / fall from glory.

  • Fajita’s (especially Shrimp) are usu good at most Mexican buffets.

Shrimp has become the main draw at all sorts of buffets.

50-120 count shrimp are mass farmed from Vietnam / Thailand / China .

Gulf Shrimp boats have to get the heavier meatier ones 12-30 count .

There are also grain farmers here and offshore who farm freshwater prawns.

Buffet shrimp of 50 + count are common at buffets I visit.

Inflation adjusted , it is much cheaper to get shrimp than in the mid-80’s
