It was looking good for the allies, untill the russian army splitted up in R14. Must have been the long battle wearing Bas down. And even then it didnt look impossible for the US to break the remaining resistense in italy, after some rounds.

game was in principle in the bag when i took berlin, but splitting the russian army was a capital mistake, was too excited taking germany and made my turn too quickly! (and was too greedy :-), should just have sat back in moscow)
i could and maybe should have taken italy earlier, but japan was just too strong to hold back and was trying to keep usa focussed on the japs and use the uk to take down italy, didn’t work too well in the end, but game was lost by then, europe was about to be overrun
