• Men of Fire is actually nonfiction. Its about Grant and Forrest and the campaign that decided the American Civil War.

  • Oops. Just looked it up on Amazon. Definitely my thing. Want to get to the bottom of the: whose fault was the Western 62 set up?

  • Thanks CD. Have ordered that book, but I think I will have to order the Donelson one from the US. Will report back, but expect 3 weeks.

  • Book due next week, but prob need 2 more weeks to finish it. Can type on my phone while with my daughter, cannot read though! Am desperate to research more on the Donelson/AsJo blame question.

    Oku No Osomichi (Matsuo Bashou)

    Chikusai Monogatari

    Tales of Merchants (Ihara Saikaku)

Tales of Moonlight and Rain (Ueda Akinari)

They’re all Japanese writers of the Tokugawa era. They are basically the “best recognized” writers in their subject, so you can have an idea of what Japan was writing in that time (From 1600 to 1800).

Oku No Osomichi is basically a travel diary full of Haikai written by Matsuo Bashou (recognized as the best Haikai composer)

Chikusai no Monogatari is another travel diary, but it’s very different from Oku No Osomichi. After Japan’s internal war ended, the people were more interested in travel diaries. So basically this is like a “touristi guide” to various Japan places.

Tales of Merchant is an excellent work of fiction. Saikaku is considered one of the most important professional writers of that era. (meaning he was writing to print and sell his works)

Tales of Moonlight and Rain from Ueda Akinari is another work of fiction, it’s a collection of mini-stories about ghosts and spirits. I find it very funny actually!

I watched that show when I was a kid! I remember the uncle bone guy!

  • Thanks Noll. (What does your name mean and are you on the Italian A&A site?)
Did you say you speak different languages. I did French and Italian at University(and never used them for work!) and German until I was 16.

    Hi Wittman, yes I’m Italian!

    Noll is a variant for Oliver  ( http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Noll )

I just like the way it sound! (And I like short names).

About Italian A&A: No I don’t post there. I know IRL the administrator of that forum, and although he’s a good guy, there are two other veterans in that forum that were attacking Larry Harris about the Global40 game in a very bad (and noobish) way. I stood to defend G40 and LH and they banned me. Some months after they were even posting lies about rule changes that Larry never did, and commenting on how crazy and stupid he is and such. Could add more, but anyway, I’m not interested in that community of whiners, the make me ashamed of my nationality.

    About Languages:

I speak Italian, English, Japanese, Korean and some Polish.

  • Cazzo!
Sorry to hear that. I just joined the Italian one,  but have only introduced myself. Not much I can see to comment on. We all have gripes, but that is too much.
I asked because you and the Sergente said you were from Palermo and I put 1 and 1 together…
    Thanks for the heads up.
