Well, here it is.
I prefer Battlemap.
And with Battlemap, I can move units around to see what the game could like like in future turns. Helps me plan.
TripleA is actually far superior when it comes to planning your turn.
As you learn to use the software, get in the habit of practicing your turn in “local” mode as many times as you need to feel good about your movements, then go back and play your turn with the play-by-forum functions on.
I find the colors much more pleasant with battlemap.
Also, and that’s a fact : the only way to be sure to play with all the rules correctly applied is battlemap. We’re still finding a lot of bugs in TripleA. Some are not very important, but some are. -
Every Battlemap game features many unintended errors in terms of placement, movement and rule interpretation. Once all the bugs are weeded out (which has nearly been accomplished already), TripleA is a much more secure way to play. With TripleA, there’s no need to check my opponent’s map and movements to be sure they didn’t mess up or place a unit too many.
I felt the same way about the colors at first (i was used to GTO’s bright palette) but I find that stuff is subjective and depends on what one is used to–for example there are people who prefer the dark (ugly) look from Battlemap’s Revised map and hate the brighter colors in the AA50 module…people like what they are used to.
I’m just glad people are finding out about TripleA. I don’t have the time or patience to play Global with Battlemap–it’s tedious and constantly freezing up.

You can play a “local game” and cycle through your turns.
Or use the edit feature.
That said, I agree with what you’re saying Jim, it’s not as plyable as battlemap, but once you get going, you remember how much all that typing SUCKED, and the graphics get easier to look at.
