got the rulebook, just realized, that I didn’t read it exactly enough, because I thought then I’d know the rules more or less.
It was exactly enough to play and to have most of the rules right, but I missed two or three things :roll:, well, now it should be better

i knew it from the date of release it was revise but because.i did buy the game in 2005 but nowhere on my box it say revise and when i read behind the box it also say spring of 1942 the world is at war oups :wink:

so anyway that mean the attacker must choose to retreat before the defender sub choose to submerge or not thx alot.

The rule you are stating is only for offloading during non-combat phase (it means if your transport does anything during combat phase, it can’t do anything during non-combat phase)

During non-combat phase, Transports can go to any friendly or neutral sea zone, whatever the alliegence of the coastal territory(ies). Also in non-combat phase, transports can only offload in friendly territories.

The rules say: “Loading onto and/or offloading from a transport counts as a land unit’s entire move [….]”
Not the “and/or”: the land unit may load and offload in one move, but it may also choose to load, and offload at a later time.

Also: “A transport can load cargo in friendly sea zones before, during, and after it moves. A transport can pick up cargo, move one sea zone, pick up more cargo, move one more sea zone, and offload the cargo at the end of its movement […]”

a fighter based on a defending carrier must land on the same carrier if possible.  If that carrier is destroyed in combat, it must try to land elsewhere.  It must land on a different friendly carrier in the same sea zone, move 1 space to a friendly territory, island, or aircraft carrier or be destroyed

is this my answer?  it’s a little unclear to me.  thanks for anyone who can give a ruling!

Yes. If your carrier is hit then, after all combats are resolved, the defending player can move the fighters 1 space to an adjacent friendly landing area (territory, island or carrier). If your fighters can’t reach any friendly area with that 1 move then they are lost.

Japan always loses their defenseless transport so it’s a wash.

I think this is a question of value… You can chose to ignore transports, allowing Bombardment on the territory, which improves your chances of winning the IPC’s and position from territory.
…OR choose to sink Transports Each costing 7 IPC’s but lose the bombardment option.
I think they did this to force the choice, for strategic purposes and game balance

Doesn’t make much sense to me, If an Entire Sea Zone is considered hostile because of any amount of surface warships, any Sea units entering their fire range are vulnerable.  If i were a defending Carrier with planes and i see lots of ships Im gonna try to sink the most valued units, it would help my defense in the land portion. Also, if the attacker could do that then the defender should have some similar balancing option, like maybe the ability to retreat defending planes, to the Land Territ.

Yes, you may load land units onto a transport during combat movement and make an amphibious assault in the same turn.  In fact, that’s the only time you may load land units onto a transport during combat movement.  Under any other circumstances, you must load them in noncombat movement.
