Canuck12 (Allies) vs ULTRA GARGANTUA (Central Powers) Great War
-
I was planning on dropping two transports into the south pacific and then I realized…
For the hundreds of dollars of navy we have sitting around… I am defending 3 IPC’s, and not yet even threatening 4 ipc’s.
we’re talking about 7 IPC’s. TOTAL. We should be asking ourselves LOL, why we didn’t give up on it a long time ago, and bring the battle back to europe.
I don’t know what we were thinking LOL, that somehow because it’s OURS, we have to take and defend it! Talk about the moral of a WWI Story! :P
-
I’m also EXTREMELY concerned about the coming American Intervention…
-
As for your sub in Sz56. I attacked with ENOUGH units and got a hit in the first round. If I had not, I would have assumed you would have submerged - as that is your choice - AFTER you roll your dice.
Loose subs in this game, are going to be a deadly opponent.
-
Yes, subs can be very sneaky in this one.
as for the American intervention, i beleive you still have about 6 fucking turns before a single unit even makes it to France.
…and Italy sure as hell doesn’t have that long.
The south pacific is more important than the Ipcs suggest. I will prove it to you next game we play…
-
Oh so there’s a rematch already being planned? I see… I see…
I think I know where you’re going with this whole “Pacific” thing. But the reality is, because of the low values of German territories, they are DOOMED to fail there.
I think I’ll take a page out of the German/Askari book. The africans who fought for them under Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck throughout WWI had a very simple strategy.
“Von Lettow-Vorbeck’s plan for the war was quite simple: knowing that East Africa would only be a sideshow, he determined to tie down as many British troops as he could. He intended to keep them away from the Western Front, and in this way contribute to Germany’s eventual victory”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Emil_von_Lettow-Vorbeck
For four years, with a force that never exceeded about 14,000 (3,000 Germans and 11,000 Africans), he held in check a much larger force of 300,000 British, Belgian, and Portuguese troops. Essentially undefeated in the field, von Lettow-Vorbeck was the only German commander to successfully invade British Empire soil during World War I. His exploits in the campaign have come down “as the greatest single guerrilla operation in history, and the most successful.”[1]
Simply Epic.
-
-
Interesting…. That may influence m strategy in the comming turns…
Though with regard to geurilla campaigns (ideology asside) credit must go to:
- Che and Castro’s troops in Cuba
- Mao Zedong’s forces in China, and of course
- The Viet-Kong
- you could even include the Red Army under Trotsky
Something about that communism just really motivated people. Too bad the whole thing worked about as well as a wooden submarine…
-
No no, it was something about DEMOCRACY that got people exicited :P And Capitalism kept it that way.

Oh I see it now. A pincer movement… not looking good for me my friend…
And as for Democracy and capitalism: yes they certainly get people excited. They have been exciting a lot of people all over the middle east for over a year now. And I personally believe them to be the closest things we have in the political and economic spheres to freedom.
But democracy and capitalism are, fundamentally, decentralized systems of power. This is not at all condusive to long guerilla campaigns. If a small group of people are going to fight on against the majority they are almost certainly expecting their effors to pay personal dividends. This is why communist dictatoriship is so appealing to geurillas, because it promises them power as the spoils of war. Democracy cannot guarantee this.
Democracy, seems to come best when mobs of people take to the streets, rather than when a small mob of people take the capital street-by-street.

Yea, russia could be up 15. And the British get some pick-apart shots in there too, the bastards.

Yeah, sure. But the fact that there are TWICE as many austrian and German troops on the Eastern front as there are Russian negates any feeling of hope I may have had…

I concede.
er, I mean…
La Triple Etente has decided enough blood has been shed in this sensles conflict. Together with our Italian and American Allies we would like to negotiate a ceace-fire. Or if that fails, simple concede defeat in good French fashion. If you wish to play this version again I kindly request to command the Allied Powers. So many mistakes to correct.
I feel like the Vancouver Canucks. At the beginning, my heart just wans’t in it and with such a poor start there is just no hope of comming back…
-
I don’t understand…
So you attacked Vimy with… a sub par army, at half the size of mine, with less than half the punch power lol? Then your 1 fighter got shot down 15 times in the last round so you quit? Was the prime minister flying that thing? or? :P
I mean, The first two rounds were fairly average? other than 0 hits on round 2 I don’t see the big deal. Yea you’ve lost some ground but… I know what I’d do. :P
So in this negotiated Surrender, these are my terms.
1. The British fleet is reduced to a consistent HALF the size of the German fleet.
2. All current holdings are retained,
3. Lithuania, the Crimea and the Caucusus, now fall under Central Power control.
4. All of North Africa is divided up amongst the Central Powers. Along with Corscia, Crete, and Cyprus.
5. The Territory of South Africa is traded to Germany
6. Britain, France, and Russia will pay war reparations to Germany to the tune of 5000 IPC’s (PU’s) at current prices over the next 100 turns.
7. Belgium will regain it’s territory and independance, but must sign an agreement to allow Central Powered troops to transfer through the region at any time - and at the will of the central powers
8. The Americans will be at their own expense build Gemany 5 new Zepplins, for their beligerence, and co conspiritism with the triple entente.
9. England will NOT be allowed to have transports of the coast of India.
10. Responsibility of the war will lie SOLELY of French and Russian shoulders. -
Hahaha! It sounds like you know how to create the conditions for a rematch… Say 1939 or so? hehe
No, I did not quit because of the one attack. Though I thought it was comical that it end on such a note.
I made massive, massive errors, oversights and miscalculations in the first 2 rounds which completely handicapped me for the rest of the game. You played a solid game and did not allow me to claw anything back in the last few rounds. I decided if I had a shot at taking one of the german factories on the western front then I might try and stick it out. I attacked with the Brits to soften up for the French and it didnt go well…
Come on Joel, dont tell me that in 6 rounds of this game plus whatever you have played with bood and guts that you haven’t figured out some of the keys to winning in this version. Because I know I have and if I have even a slight idea I know your strategic brain is just churning with methods and tactics.
Sorry to deny you a glorious victory. It is inevitable, but it would porbabaly take annother 10 turns or so. I think our time would be better spent in something even remotely competitive. I believe I can deliver that if you are up to the challenge…
Stick a fork in it already! You kicked my ass!
-
Alright alright…
So the next thing is. We download Triple A 1.5.2.1 STABLE - which has 1940 Global Alpha + 3.9. And play.
Axis or Allies? And let me get a link for 1.5.2.1 :
Once that is installed, the game is already included etc (it’s a special link made just for me).
So let me know what it’s going to be ace. Perhaps we have that 1939 rematch? :P
