    One question. Since I don’t see them listed in this set are you going to make some Russian Airborne units, at least in a later Set?

    I understand you’re changing needs because of the NEW MAPS, but I’d still really like to have some Paratroopers from ALL of the countries so I can actually use them in my games.

    Until then, my HBG U.S. Army Airborne units are “All dressed to Kill, but no place to go”.

    Thanks for your time,

    “Tall Paul”

    Did Russia use Airborne troops in WW2?  I don’t remember hearing of Soviet paratroop drops.  I understand that we could use them in our games since they tend to stray from history somewhat, like Germany buying an aircraft carrier round 1 – Germany never actually had a functioning aircraft carrier.  I’m just asking because if there were no Soviet Airborne troops in WW2, then Coach may have a hard time making a sculpt for one.

    There were some drops but very few of them. Since I can’t post pictures, from the link, go down the page a bit and there it is :

    Thanks radar 231,

    Understand,…I’m NOT trying to “pressure” HBG at all.

    But I do hope that HBG plans on making some Russian Airborne units, if not in THIS set, at least eventually.

    I thought the “Coach” had somewhat set a standard for the types of units that would be in his Complement sets which included Paratroopers.

    If there aren’t any Russian Airborne units made, I don’t think my opponents would ever allow me to add Paratroopers to my 1940-Global games. Then my HBG American Airborne Troopers below would certainly be “All dressed to Kill, but have nowhere to go”. Thanks for your consideration on this.

    Great pieces. Cant wait till they are avail. Job well done guys.

  • TripleA 12

    Love 'em! Although, I would say that the Fighter piece looks a little… stocky/balloonish? I would expect it to be a wee bit slimmer?

    Actually, the I-16 looked very much like this sculp. It was kind of “bulky” for a fighter, which is why in the early stages of Barbarossa what few actually got into the air to try and stop the German onslaught were totally outclassed by the Luftwaffe fighters and thus sent crashing to the ground in flames. Much Soviet equipment was obsolete like this right at first but once they got over the shock and into the swing of things, they started designing and manufacturing much sleeker and competitive fighters.

    The two engine plane sculp; is that the transport plane or the medium bomber?

    @Lozmoid:

    Yeah, I remember seeing a little of them from my dvds on WW2, specifically the opening days of Barbarossa. They were relatively slow too. In one shot they showed an Me-109 pilot in the cockpit view as he chased and pumped bullets into an I-16 and actually passed it. You see him looking back trying to find the plane.

    @Variable:

    The two engine shown is the medium bomber.

    Thanks. It looks cool. These will be available in both the OOB Maroon color and the Burgandy color of FMG’s Soviet Combat Dice?
