CorriganBP (Allies) vs Cmdr Jen (Axis) Alpha +3, Objectives, no technologies

  • the problem with playing the game as is for the win or for the fun is that the current set up is really a different game . … it is a game called the Axis Virtually Always Wins, and yes, you can play to see who gets the VC win first but that’s not my play style, I play to win the war.

    I’ve seen 5 Axis 1 Allied win so far, 6 Axis wins if I count Noll’s surrender.  And that includes your win against me as well.

    so you can say let’s not play to test a theory, but the theory is “Can the Allies win?”

  • If you want to play to see if you can stop sea lion rather than winning after I’m successful with it, no problem.  However, if your strategy involves really aggressive attacks (aggressive = low probablility = just trying it until the dice go your way), then you really haven’t proved anything.

    Okay, using your theory we can play to test a theory. lol.  I meant it’s not really a fair test to test a theory like kill India first because it allows people to do weird things to “stop” the test and almost feels like it forces you to attack anyway…

    Okay, how about this:  The axis powers win if they control 2 capitols on each board.  On the europe board they need 2 of:  Paris, London, Washington DC and Moscow.  On the pacific board they need 2 of: Calcutta, Sydney, Washington DC, all Chinese territories and San Francisco.    They need BOTH, Europe and Pacific.

    Perhaps that is “fair” and we can get rid of the VCs altogether - make it more like Classic that way.  Although, if you ask me, VCs should just be 3 IPC NOs for whoever controls them as long as they are not your own territories.

  • Cmd Jen,

    I appreciate the effort but what you are basically doing is changing the number of VCs and the number needed to win.

    The reason why we need Larry is not because he has divine powers but because no two Axis and Allies players can agree on anything.

    In fact, most A&A players just because they tend to have very competitive personalities, automatically think of the next person’s idea as a bad idea.  That is, unless you make a sweeping generalization such as this one, in which case they will bend over backwards to prove that they agree with everyone else’s ideas except yours.

    Oh well, maybe I should just accept the game as is and try to get as many victories as possible using the strategies I know.  Just give me the germans every time - although I really would like to play the allies once in a while.

    Well, theoretically, it is your turn for the allies again.  :wink:

  • corr I didn’t surrender, I’ll resume that dicey game later.

    @Cmdr:

    Well, theoretically, it is your turn for the allies again.  :wink:

    Since Noll’s post started a new page, it’s yer turn for the axis, if you want to go again.

    And yes, I’d love to play a game where all I have to do is have fun.  I don’t have to win, I don’t have to prove a theory, I don’t have to do anything but have fun.
