  • Yes I resign.  Two giant oversights, the two can-opener possibilities.  Both of them worked for you, the first one a coin flip, but the second one was 80+%

The game was probably over with the first can-opener, which was a coin flip.  Was even more likely over with the below average attack of SUM - however I do think the allies still had a small fighting chance.  And now is most definitely over with the second disastrous can-opener.

On the positive note, I have eliminated two of my blind spots on the map.

And hopefully I can finish you off in the league game, now that you have showed me some of your secrets

Good luck in the championship game!

    Cheers

  • The first can-opener led to the possibility of the second of course because it entirely changed the US strategy, which had to switch into high desperation mode.  I would never have made the attempt on SUM if I hadn’t lost RUS and therefor would not have had the fleet in the vulnerable position, not to mention you probably wouldn’t have had a bomber in YAK, so it was all a snowball effect.  Also you flew a bombing run over RUS last turn that had the AA hit, you couldn’t have made the move you just did… coulda woulda shoulda

Will have to try to remember the lessons learned here, they will all be valuable in the future!!

    Cheers

Totally agree with all of this.

It is refreshing to play someone with considerable skills who is also a really good sport and a humble player.  You are the kind of person I would be happy to play again and again, win or lose.  Thank you for your well-wishes, and I will see you from across the game-board again in the future (besides the league game going).

I would be happy to be a partner with you in a team game if the opportunity arises, as well.  Haven’t played a team game in awhile.

After almost 2 games with you, I think it appropriate to admit that you have very effective Pacific strategies.

This is not the only great Pacific strategy you have, but holding back the UK transport and being patient until rounds 4 or 5 is a good strategy because the UK can open up landing places for the USA.  I nearly made a big mistake of moving my fleet to Z36 last turn (which is why I transported up the add’l infantry and artillery to Burma and sacrificed the transport) thinking that if I secured Burma, your 2 extra fighters and 3 bombers would not be able to attack.  Between the combat and non-combat phases, however, I realized that you could take Borneo which would allow the 2 fighters and 3 bombers to attack Z36.  So I went to Z59 instead (which fortuitously led to the game deciding can-opener).  But that UK transport makes for a lot less safe sea zones for the Jap fleet, which I will remember in the future.

IMO your UK and USSR play needs a lot of improvement.  I realize that focusing on Japan results in a weaker European theater for the Allies, but what I’m saying is I think if your USSR and UK European play was a strong as your Pacific US and UK play, you would be extremely tough.  Hope this helps (but not too much)

  • I agree, it’s been a great challenge to play you, and very enjoyable.  I would like to start a second league game when you are willing.  I think we are allowed to play an opponent twice a year in the league now right?  I feel like our current league game will go to the Allies (although far from certain) so our next game could be the tiebreaker  :-)

    Cheers
