• Just wondering, are there any other Historical reenactors out there on the forums, if so, what do you portray (period and impression)?

  • SCA heavysticker year 899-999 living the dream huzzah!!!      a viking we will go  a viking we will go, hi ho  hi ho, hi ho

  • Intresting, Im assuming thats some sort of mid-evil reenacting group?

I reenact several periods and impressions. I have been involved with reenacting the American Civil War since 2008 as a Union infantryman from the 12th Mass. I have a really spiffy lookin frock coat and 1853 Enfield musket. I was just at the 150th anniversery battle for Bull Run this past summer.

I also am heavily involved with WW2 reenacting (big suprise right  ) In the period I reenact German, Soviet, English and Finnish soliders. For the Germans I am a solider in the 2nd Gebirgsjaegers, in the Soviet I am an infantry wan in the 3rd Rifle division, for the English i’m an infantryman in the 4th West Essex Division and for the Finns im a seinor sergeant in the 2nd Jaeger Batalion.

As I recall, the Monty Python movie “And Now for Something Completely Different” features a scene in which a group of female senior citizens have formed a historical reenactment society.  They announce that they will demonstrate their hobby by staging a reenactment of the Battle of Pearl Harbor.  What follows is a short, high-speed sequence in which two groups of old ladies (played by the Monty Python actors in dresses) charge at each other in a muddy field and start beating each other up by swinging their handbags at each other.

    as a Union infantryman

    fffffffffffffffffff……

Talk about joining the WRONG side.

Time to switch, come on now.  We all know who was RIGHT in that conflict.

I am currently trying to figure out which side of the conflict I should join for WW1, either French or German

If you are good at raising both arms high above your head, then join the French!

heehee  :-D Normally I’d agree but this is WW1 France where they still had a number of brave hairy frenchmen(redundant statment) running head first into machine guns and what not, so there is some room for action. That statment reminds me of a Civil war event I was at where we were having particular trouble getting the battalion to move properly (getting seven companies of 20 men each to wheel is no simple task) and our commanding officer got so annoyed he shouted “everyone stop! place you hands on the barrels of your guns and point the stock skyward, (civil war surrender pose) there, thats all the only drill you’ll need to know!”

  • When the kids get older, I want to reenact, I want to join the C.S.A Company K of the 37th Texas Cav.

I have family that fought in that unit.

  • There are alot of people in Civil War reenacting for just that reason ABW, i’ve run across a number of relatives of actual Civil War vets. The Major in charge of our cavalry unit(s) swagers about with his ancestors cavalry sword that he used in the war. Adds a lot to the hobby when you have people like that in it. Not sure what the standards are in your area but where im from the minium age to join as a solider (and use a rifle) is 16.

  • The Soviet reenactment unit im part of got to be extras in a WW2 movie this past weekend. It was prety cool, kinda boring waiting around to be filmed but a neat experiance. The best part (outside of hanging around with the guys and B.S.ing) was getting to pig out at the buffet table after we we’re done filming!

    Is it Panzer 88?

The movies title? I think they were just using a working title because we were told it was called “confession” and I really hope they dont stick with that
