G40 League House Rule project

here it is
Are Jeff and Fortress really that good, or are they just preying on inexperienced players and/or getting lucky? I don’t know. Time will tell. :-)
I said it over on the results page – anybody can look like a good player when all of the bombers are lined up in smoldering heaps on the ground… Sometimes a solid move isn’t rewarded with dice, and sometimes it is. Like you said, Gamer, sometimes the dice are going to determine the winner and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.

I should be playing craps, not Global with dice this hot. What a waste.
-
Yep, could be making big bucks fast, the easy way
-
Jeez, was AA50 ever this popular on this site?
Another result to update
G40 on tripleA is red hot - come where the action is men!
-
29 results already in the 2013 league??

29 results in G40 games that is. contrasted with 5 AA50 results. hmm.
-
Only thing that proves is we have a lot of bandwagon jumpers.
A lot of players overlooked the 1942 scenario of AA50, which happens to be the better one
Novelty!! People want novelty. That’s what the contrast of 29 to 5 means. New toy.

Not to go off topic, but why is the '42 scenerio better? I haven’t played it much and probably not since it came out, but it seems Russia starts out in a hole. Or does it just play more like Classic or Revised, where you withstand the early G push and the lines stabilize? More global strats? Kinda wish they were able to make it work with the same turn order (for '41 and '42).
You can PM me your response if you don’t want to tie up this thread. Thanks.

Updated with 2 more results, and
PPG implemented for G40!For those not familiar with my system used the past couple years with AA50 league…
These rankings are only for fun and informational purposes. They have no bearing on who is actually crowned league champion. The moderators don’t post league standings very often at all, so this is the place to check to see where you stack up at any given point in time. It is also a great way to check out your opponent before you agree to play - see how strong of a player they are and where they rank in the league currently.
I assign players to tiers 1, 2, 3. I normally assign players with current PPG of .5 or above to tier 1. Tier 2 is for -.5 to +.5, and Tier 3 is below -.5 PPG. This is an approximation of the quality of your opponent, based on his other game results. Basically tier 1 is a strong opponent, tier 2 is an average opponent, and tier 3 is weak/inexperienced.
Here is how I get PPG (points per game played):
I count up your points. You earn:
3 for defeating a tier 1 player
2 for defeating a tier 2 player
1 for defeating a tier 1 player
-1 for losing to a tier 1 player
-2 for losing to a tier 2 player
-3 for losing to a tier 3 playerThen divide points by number of games played.
If you beat someone considered tier 1 in December but then they go and lose a few games and drop a tier, then your PPG will decline as well, because new information showed that your tier 1 opponent was perhaps over-rated, probably due to insufficient data.Speaking of insufficient data, I am jumping the gun a bit…. I am unfamiliar with a lot of these players and so only have a couple of game results to go on. I even put ?? in for tier for a few players with few results. I calculated them as tier 2 by default, for now. So don’t be miffed if you are a danged good Axis and Allies player and you are currently ranked tier 3 because you played and lost a couple of games. Keep playing, and with a few wins this wrong will quickly be corrected! I’m just going by the results that come in. Did I mention this is just for fun?
Check out my standings and watch them during the year. Give them a chance, and wait for a bunch more results to come in and for the rankings to take firmer shape. I have found that this system I devised a couple years ago designed to take into account STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, AND level the playing field for NUMBER OF GAMES PLAYED, helps a lot to see more clearly where players stand.
If nothing else, you can see the current results along with a W/L matrix that shows who beat who and how many times, and you can re-sort my spreadsheet by WIN % if you want to ignore my somewhat subjective rankings.
Enjoy :-)
