2012 - AA50-41 - League Rules

Which is a great discussion and all, but my question was if there was a mere 18 Victory Cities on the board in total. lol

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    @Cmdr:

It’s been FOREVER, how many Victory Cities do the Axis need to win?Â

That’s all but 4 VCs on the board?  Or am I missing some?  Or basically global domination with the exception of the United States (the ones that were actually states in WWII) and one other allied capitol?

    01-Leningrad
    02-Stalingrad
    03-Moscow
    04-Warsaw
    05-Berlin
    06-Rome
    07-Paris
    08-London
    09-Toronto
    10-Washington D.C.
    11-Manilla
    12-Calcutta
    13-Sydney
    14-Beijing
    15-Hong Kong
    16-Tokyo
    17-Honolulu
    18-San Francisco

I don’t understand you.  You listed the 18 cities so apparently you don’t need to know how many there are, and you made FOUR statements ending in a question mark.  Your questions were such that you were basically asking about all the rules connected to victory cities in AA50, so we answered them.
So I don’t understand why you made that last post at all

  • 18 17 16 11 Mod

Okay, so there are 18 total and Axis need 14 to win.  That’s all I wanted to know!  Wasn’t sure I had seen them all and was not missing one or two.

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

    Right -
    Your list looks perfect.
JWW has decreed 14 cities for 2012.

What’s with the little black diamonds with ?? in them?
Jenn, you even have one in your Fleet Murderess tagline!  How’s that happen?
I thought they were just popping up after double spaces after periods…  Guess not

“Upgraded” Internet Exploder now nothing works right.  I didn’t ask to be updated, mind you, Microsoft just decreed I could no longer refuse the upgrade. /sigh.  I tried downgrading and it really screwed things up, so I’ll stay with it for now.

Appears to be because Djensen hates me:

  • I gotta figure out why it changed. It’s really annoying to me as well.

  • What is meant by full placement of the bid in rule 4b? Does it mean the entire bid has to be spent?

    @Ol’:

What is meant by full placement of the bid in rule 4b? Does it mean the entire bid has to be spent?

To clarify you mean spent only on units and that money cannot be put in the bank right?

  • That is correct Bold…can bid IPCs be put in a bank or do they have to be spent?

You can bank remainders - full placement does not mean you have to place all of your bid in units on the board, it means you can place anywhere on the world (no parts of the world off-limits)

  • Thanks Gamer

    You’re welcome!

  • 2007 AAR League

Actually,“full placement” in my experience meant that you were allowed, though not required, to use your entire bid to purchase units as opposed to “limited placement”, usually half-placement/half cash, which meant that you could only purchase units with a portion of your bid and then the rest was required to be banked as cash. I don’t ever recall a rule that your entire bid MUST be used for units only.

    What gamerman01 described:

    @Gamerman01:

you can place anywhere on the world (no parts of the world off-limits)

is actually “unrestricted bid placement” as opposed to “restricted bid placement” which restricts bid units from being placed in allied territories, empty sea zones, and empty territories (SOP, I think) and/or restricts the number of units that can be placed in a single territory or sea zone (not sure if it’s SOP or not).

It’s semantics, I know. Plus, I’ve been gone for a while so definitions and rules may have changed since then.

    Thanks for the clarification

Actually, all those terms were defined before I came along here a few years ago and I never did fully understand them, but I did know for sure that it did NOT mean you couldn’t bank any IPC’s!

A surprise to see you back, U.  The way you disappeared suddenly without explanation, we thought something bad might have happened to you.  Apparently you’re still alive

  • 2007 AAR League

No problem. IIRC, the term “full placement” came about as an alternative to a DAAK requirement that all bids must be half units/half cash that people playing here were not entirely happy with. That was during the revised era, I think. Maybe even prior.

Actually, I didn’t leave voluntarily. The day I left we had a heavy thunderstorm here and lightning fried my cable. Took a week for the guy to get out here and by then I had immersed myself in all of the tasks I had been procrastinating doing because I was playing A&A all the time. Short story long, it became a cycle of “man, I have to get back to EM and the guys to see how they’re doing” and “But, I’m kinda busy now, I’ll do it tomorrow”. So, “I’ll do it tomorrow” ended up turning into almost 2 years. I’ve been out of the loop so long it even took me 10 minute to relearn how to use battlemap. And now there’s this crazy Global game that I’ve never seen before.

    Try playing on TripleA  :-D

Global 1940 has a learning curve to it, that’s for sure.  Harris revamped the rules several times.  There are three main upgrades from out-of-the-box and he called them Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Alpha 3.  Alpha 3 is supposedly final, but so were the two predecessors.  Go to his website harrisgamedesign.com to read the Alpha rules if you’re serious about learning global.  Numerous rules clarifications are posted on the FAQ thread here on this site as well as on Harris’.

Just as some like it hot and some like it cold and some like it in the pot 9 days old, not everyone’s real cracked on Global, but others are in love with it.  You’ll have to decide for yourself.

Sorry everyone this post is off topic

I think I will. For Global anyway. It looks time consuming.

I’ll take a whack at it, see what falls out.

Just to get back on topic. Are we going to have enough players to qualify for the 14 game minimum Major League limit? And what’s with all these question mark diamond symbols?

  • 25 24 23 22 15 11 10 Official Q&A Mod

A few months ago some problem or glitch with the site has caused the annoying question mark diamond symbols.  They pop up especially when someone has posted while you’re typing a post, or when you edit a post you’ve made.  I always double space after periods, and the symbols pop up where-ever there are double spaces…

I think the major league thing is just if there happen to be enough players??  I think this is up to Darth M…
