Japanese IC in India

the main point in taking hawaii or alaska is to give the US that much less $$$. an often overlooked aspect of taking american land is SBR’s against the W/US. this can be done from alaska, hawaii, midway, etc. if Japan can get one or two bombers within range, the odds of getting shot down is minimal, and it helps if you have heavy bombers.

If you built a Royal Navy Fleet on UK1, UK 2 or had enough fleet left after Germany attacked on G1 to start building trans, 3 to 4 trans is good for UK depending on how much of Africa Germany took (4 to 9 IPCs lost leaving UK with 21 to 26[unless Japan has(God forbid!) taken Ind, Aus and/or NZ, though that is unlikely]).

Building US forces, moving them the next turn to E Can and shucking them on the following turn to UK, Fin/Nor or W Eur with UK/US naval protection(Alg or W Eur is the same if UK fleet has move tothe West Spain sea zone)let’s you do it with about 5 trans.

Extra trans give you an attack buffer and the option to move in two directions with protection and/or a buffer.

You should assume that if it’s such a crippling blow for Japan to lose it’s airforce on round 1 then Japan probably ought not to do it.

It’s debatable how many units you can get there past 1 round in the future, the point is you only build 3 land units/round and the Japs with 4 transports at the start of round 2 can get 8 land units per round to bear. If you have to build ftrs in england and fly them to India for protection it’s a losing battle. Land units win land battles.

I don’t doubt you can be a thorn in the side of Japan but you may find that if you split up the Brit forces you end up with 2 forces neither of which can project enough power to do much.

Building land units in England, moving them to Norway gets them to India but a few turns later is all. No building a factory and AA so that’s 20 IPC of equipment you’re ahead.

No disrespect, but having taken India with the British built factory, I now have an IC in Asia. Also my opponents were not great players :roll: (nor do I pretend to be a top player either :wink: ) so they were not defending well in Asia, never posed a serious threat to retake India, and seemed to be concentrating mainly on the German-Russian front and later (maybe this was their big mistake) on Africa, taken and held for most of the game by Germany.

So I chose to expand into Australia to pick up IPCs quickly. With two inf plus two fighters from the AC, my odds calculator says I should win about 98% of the time (which I did win). And even if I do not, there are plenty of inf on the surrounding islands to try again next turn (one inf plus two fighters from AC and hopefully at least one of the defending inf died in the first attack).

Of course I did continue to push in Asia as well, but knowing how the game usually goes for the Axis, I was trying to build a large economy ASAP and Australia is a very tempting 2 ipc per turn that the Allies cannot take back (and doesn’t even need to be defended) unless they have basically already won the game. From there I went to NZ and then Hawaii with my transport and AC (two more IPCs per turn), while pushing hard into Russia.

B.T.W. We did win as the Axis, as I (Japan) was able to take Moscow before the allies could take Berlin.

in many games i’ve seen US UK and USSR all go for germany (which falls then by the latest at turn 4) and then only japan is left, but they have become quite rich (certainly not enough for the IPC victory) and then all 3 go for japan and then its over

I did once and highly regretted it. Japan had attacked India, taken it, lost it taken it back…etc. They called on Germany (I, conqueror of Africa) to help and I took it myself w/ 2 ARM. Unfortunately, Japan chose not to reinforce me and the USSR took India back. Japan took India AGAIN and begged me to land a FTR for defense and I did. They promptly moved OUT and left my precious FTR to die alone. Needless to say I never played alongside this guy again–at least while he was Japan.

You need to destroy the Hawaii fleet to keep your back free. Its too much for japan to fight both fronts, thus i feel its better to take out Hawaii instantly.
I play with RR, and Japan has no trouble taking the Pacific.

But i guess its all relative.
