Japanese IC in India

Do you ever plan, from the outset, to send a combination of planes and ships to attack the American/British Navy in the Atlantic?  I’ve found this to be the most effective way to get Japan directly involved in the game rather than just nibbling at the edges.  The plan requires a skilled defensive strategy with Germany, likely with 100% infantry purchases.  It has worked well in my recent games, however.

Japan must accept that it will not significantly pressure Moscow, but it can still easily build enough infantry to take and hold SFE, Yakut, China, Sinkiang, India, and Persia by turn 6, while building 4 new fighters in the process.  On turn 7 the Japanese air force flies from Persia to Europe, and the ships have just arrived at Brazil from the Cape of Africa.  On turn 8, the successful destruction of the entire Atlantic fleet should be likely.

It doesn’t tilt the game in favor of the Axis, but it does increase their odds substantially in my opinion.  Is there a fatal flaw to this plan that I’m missing?

I feel like a Russia-Japan non aggression pact would make it too easy for Germany to be taken down.  The real battle of the game is whether or not Japan gets to Russia before everyone else gets to Germany.

When I do buy an IC, it is around J4, and I place it in Manchuria.

By this point, I have a major tranny fleet that is full with units to bridge each round.  The IC simply adds 3 more tanks to the westward sweep each round on Russia.

But in all honesty, unless Germany is starting to look a little over-taxed, I don;t build one.  The 15 IPC’s for the IPC represents another loaded tranny build.

I simply tend to play Japan doing a massive initial outward sweep to increase IPC’s, then start a steadilly growing stream of forces marching on Russia.  At first it is a soft breeze blowing west, but each round, the wind gets stronger until finally Russia is blown away by it (see, it is a strategy that even fits with Japan’s mythology :-) )

First of all,

Germany (90% of the time) does have the bb and a trn and/or a sub in the WMEDSZ after G1. Also, the UK in EMEDSZ is dead or if it survived the 1st round – submerged or withdrawn to the REDSZ. More than likely, all RUS and UK ships will be eliminated on G1 (including the trn in ECASZ).

In order for UK to take out the GER bb and the GER sub and/or trn with it’s airforce on UK1, all planes would have to land in Gibraltar. Thus, no UK fighters in KAR and at least one of the fighters will die (if not both). No way a smart UK player would sacrifice it’s airforce on UK1.

So, by waiting until UK2 to buy ships … this puts you in the same perdicament as the UK1 IC in ECA = no usuable UK navy until UK3.

To me … it’s better to have UK buying nothing but trn – let the US build the ac on US1 or US2. The US has more income anyways.

Anyhow … this IC in ECA was just a tool to spark some conversations – and it did exactly what I hoped it would.

That works for me.
If you built a Royal Navy Fleet on UK1, UK 2 or had enough fleet left after Germany attacked on G1 to start building trans, 3 to 4 trans is good for UK depending on how much of Africa Germany took (4 to 9 IPCs lost leaving UK with 21 to 26[unless Japan has(God forbid!) taken Ind, Aus and/or NZ, though that is unlikely]).

Building US forces, moving them the next turn to E Can and shucking them on the following turn to UK, Fin/Nor or W Eur with UK/US naval protection(Alg or W Eur is the same if UK fleet has move tothe West Spain sea zone)let’s you do it with about 5 trans.

Extra trans give you an attack buffer and the option to move in two directions with protection and/or a buffer.
