A good series is Marshall Cavendish W.W.I series. This 12 volume set, is usually found in libraries, encyclopedia articles of the war, some written or based on people who lived during the war.

Rich in pictures, graphs, charts, illustrations, side stories of the Great War. If you cannot find what you want to read here, then it probably be a hard search for that particular subject.

Some libraries hace a duplicate set of books, letting you take a volume home. You can try the net, used book stores, good luck in getting a set, enjoy the read, thanks, Pellulo

Hard to say. A large part was that I identified so much with one of the main characters, Larry. Not so much in his appearance, personality, or relationships with people (though one relationship he had in particular I saw as very similar to one of mine), but more in his character, his interests, his motivations, and his mannerisms. I saw a lot of myself in that (and I make that evaluation without considering it either inherently good or bad), so a lot of his experiences and choices in the book resonated with me, and made me consider my own. Additionally, the manner in which much that happened in the book was regarded by the author (who is, incidentally, the narrator), I found very appealing, and agreed with it to a substantial degree. It wasnt even that this led to an outright challenge to my previously held beliefs, just that they offered such a fresh new way of looking at things (from my perspective anyway), that I was struck with how simple and reasonable these opposing ideas seemed.

Consider for the most part who gets killed in a lot of these circumstances in North America. True, you have the odd tragedy - the high school massacres, the spousal killings, etc. but for the most part the “victims” of homicides i’ve noticed are when “like kills like”. I.e. You’re personal situation sets you up to getting killed. If i do not want to have a homicide visited upon me, i take the necessary precautions - i do not join a gang, i do not sell drugs (especially on someone else’s turf), i avoid certain areas at night, and i do not set myself up to have violence visited upon myself. True, N.A. can be a violent place and FAR too often people are victims of random evil crimes. At the same time, the numbers do not bear out who is getting killed for the most part.
You’re right too F_alk. There is no context to this. We don’t know how many people/100 000 are getting killed/suicided. For all we know there are like 2 suicides/100 000 and 1/100 000 homicides in Europe relative to 30 homicides/100 000 and 10 suicides/100 000 in N.A. in which case Europe would be the clearly desireable place to be.
Also Canada, i think, would deserve its own stat. I would guess that we would be closer to Europe in these stats due to the lack of handgun-proliferation.

As said by myself before, there is no other system inherently democratic as communism.

true communism – the theory stated by Karl Marx – sounds like a wonderful idea to me but this is the real world. that is why the capatialist system is more effiecnt.

The problem is that you are studying too much of the theories under Marx and Engles. There is just as much to gain from reading from the theories of the new era of influential communist. However brilliant The Manifesto may be, it is similarly outdated for the 21st century (read the coming of the information war) and should only be used as a template for the new communist movement.

This is true. Look at the economic peril South America is currently in from adopting US capitalist modes. South America is on the verge of initializing groundbreaking, leftist reforms, though the United States Government gone through great pains to try and prevent that from happening.

I would not count out the Americans. If anything, a smoothly operating communist government would be more successful in America, Europe, or Japan due to their vast, modernized infostructure.

Emu, I agree with you entirely. The kibbutz is a great example. Its the only working communist system in the world. Israel is all bad!

I wouldn’t say the only “communist” system in the world, but I do respect the Kibbutz system as a model for future communes.
